TR4/4A Beginning Cyl Head Removal - Questions

Hi

Two pleasant surprises for a change. After taking out the head nuts and studs last weekend, I was prepared to pull the head today using an engine hoist. No need, I simply lifted it straight off this morning. And, to beat that, the broken stud which was in the block (and the whole reason for pulling the head)...spun right out with a center punch and a few taps from a hammer!!

I was fully prepared for that broken stud to be permanently bonded in there. I was already planning to buy carbide tipped reverse drill bits, stud extractors, etc, etc, etc. I can't tell you how relieved I am!

Now planning to have carbs rebuilt, exhaust manifold blasted/refinished. Ordering all new gaskets and fastening hardware.

Great news! I've found that the things I think will be a problem rarely are. The most time consuming problems tend to be the ones that look like they'll be simple until they bog you down.
