Bad front wheel bearing.

Did he not pull the races before? In the photos,I only looked and did not read, I saw a punch and hammer?

Yes Don, Dale indeed did remove the bearings AND the races back then. It's all in the pics and details.

That's why this job should be a no-brainer. The hand of experience will be working on this project. No un-chartered waters to cross on this project. Just pull the trigger and git er' done!!

Don, the photo I posted above is from Dale's write-up, showing the used, worn race just before he reinstalled it.

That was a mistake.Dale, you go that far .Replace them.

Right on the money--- passenger front wheel making odd sounds.

Once you've had a wheel fall off while driving, the memory stays
with you.

I found a fairly decent "How To Do" on the internet and tore into
my front wheel to locate what "new" problem had presented itself
for me to repair and spend a bundle more $$ cash.

WOW! I sure did not get far into the wheel bearing diagnostics before
the problem was self evident to even a non-mechanic such a myself.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

As I removed the hubcap, the wheel bearing grease cap fell into
my lap. It must have popped off and had been rolling around inside
the hubcap making sounds from time to time.

So I pulled the outer bearings, cleaned and repacked them-
put everything back together.

Remember back when----almost everyone agreed the owwner before DPO Pedro
had installed quality front wheel bearings and all mine needed was cleaning
and new grease..

So the joke's on Dale Today - inferior amateur workmanship.

Thanks for everyone's help and advice.

Let the first among us who has not made a mistake on their car, cast the first hammer at Dale..............

No wonder they said you had a problem on that side
You did

Catastrophe negated by investigation! Did ya go to the other side and make sure the dust cap there was well seated? :jester:

Gotta laugh, we're too old to cry.................

The old marbles in the hub cap trick used by mechanics for years to drive up business.

Good work... But I now understand why you do not make soup from left overs. Unlike a car, with a good soup, you only get one chance.
