After a 6 week hiatus from work (during the holidays no less) I started a new job 1st of the year at the New Castle County Airport in Delaware remodeling hangers for a jet manufacturer from France. It's the first time I've ever seen the workings of jet aircraft up close and I'll tell you I knew these things were complicated but the time, effort, and materials used to repair and fit out new stripped down jets amazes me.

All the work on these things is done here from upholstery, repair of panels, and the custom painting to customer specs. I'm getting used to the smell of burning jet fuel as the terminal is directly across from my construction trailer.

It's great to be back to work - now funding for the cars can start again!!

budk1953, good for you! sounds like an interesting job, as someone thats been around airports often do yourself a favor get some good ear protection those jet engine can quickly destroy your hearing. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif

AMEN to the earplugs! After working aroung Helicopters for years I can attest to "jet engines can quickly ruin your hearing". And ............ GOOD hearing aids arn`t cheap! And ..... a pain in the arse to wear too!

Good on you!

I love the smell of jet fuel in the morning. Smells like... aviation.

By the way, since you're going to work in one, a hanger is something you put your shirts on in a closet. A hangar is a place where aircraft are stored. It's French for shed. Lots of aviation terms come from French like nacelle and fuselage.

Well let's not open up the whole French thing /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazyeyes.gif

I've been around them in different capacities for 35 years and it still doesn't get old; although it's not as much fun as it used to be before all the security issues became necessary. I started off in aircraft maintenance overhauling them and then got into airline and airport operations as I climbed the ladder.

Hey congratulations!

Isn't it amazing what folks can find to spend money on. I'm familiar with a business that did nothing but refurbish private jets! I'm amazed there's a market for this...
