Back from the Glen

Awsome meeting you and getting to see your verrrry nice TR250! HOpe you were able to keep that battery charged for the weekend (or did you score an Alternator).
That tour on friday was a hoot! 115 Triumphs!!!! WOW!!!!
If ya haven't yet, check out the thread I got going in the Pub (Pics from Watkins) Lots of goodies in there! For any of you Triumph guys !

Great weekend! Unfortunately, much of my time was spent fixing the weld on my frame that cracked. Made for an interesting trip up.
875 miles, 25 mph and no problems other than the broken frame.
FOT had a nice tribute to Jack Drews Saturday evening at the Grassroots/Classic Motorsports tent.
Lots of great cars; friends; and roads.

Yeah, I very much enjoyed the outing - and sorry I missed the tribute for Jack Drews. Very nice combination of a lot of Triumphs, a lot of other interesting cars, racing, and great scenery. But I didn't get a chance to buy Banjo that beer I promised! Next time Banjo, I promise!

p.s. I added pics to Franks post in the National Events forum. A big bunch of unsorted pics can be found here

Please tell me that was 25mpg. Otherwise I never, ever, ever want to caravan anywhere with you.

Hmmm. A weekend of mostly sun and topless driving ruined my proofreading skills.

First time I ever checked mileage on the 6. Usually think more on rate of travel. With the rear wheel rebounding at higher speeds, I was able to maintain 60 mph.

Actually, our caravan travelled into central PA and went north. Very beautiful roads travelling along the Susquehanna River.

Ben: I believe there were 11 TR250's. 11/115 = almost 10 percent. Not bad considering that only 8,484 were produced.
Many thanks for the photos. if you haven't seen them yet, check out Randy's (TR4NUT) album on photobucket.

Great weekend with a lot of great cars and people.

After having a great race Saturday finishing 2nd overall behind a smokin' fast 356 and in front of a surprisingly fast MGB, we were expecting more of the same for Sunday. Unfortuantly a mechanical failure put an end to that on the first lap of the Triumph race. What a bummer.

We'll be back next year for another go.

Randy, Looks like you were on the sidelines everywhere we went. Good shot of Johns TR3 with the both of us doing the laps of the track (powder blue TR3 behind the red TR6)
Lots of other great shots. I diden't get to see enough of that blue futuristic looking thing. Was it based on a TR250? It was neat looking.
I agree with ya Frank. That was an impressive showing of 250s. What a neat event.

The blue thing is a TR250K and is based on the 250. A one off built by Kas and Peter Brock. It was faster than stink and the engine revved about an octave above the others.
It was about the only race I got to watch as a lot of my time was spent working on cars.

Well the turnout at the Glen was better than a lot of Triumph Shows I have been to, and of course, John Macartney showed up to talk at the Legends Speak event, at the IMRRC auction, and at the track on Saturday and Sunday.

Probably over 600 race cars of all sorts, definately over 250 Triumphs including the racers, and Triumph and Racing legends and personalities, not to mention TS1, 250K, Peyotte, Devin and other one off special Triumphs. Meeting Jack Drew's son Tony and watching him race was a moving moment knowing Jack passed just three weeks ago.

I think a combined FOT / VTR / TRA / Wedge / Spit / 6Pack show at a national Road Race track could be really epic, certainly if it was at the Glen. The infield area is extremely versatile, provides camping and all sorts of facilities, Watkins Glen has a brand new resort hotel and loads of other accomodations. 46 Wineries around Lake Seneca and the Glen State Park adds to the draw, not to mention the Wings or Eagles museum and IMRRC library with spectacular local scenery.

FOT Racers are pretty laid back - the only important schedule is what time to practice, what time to qualify, what time to race. Everything else is hanging out talking to friends and swapping "stories" inbetween repairs for racing. Great bunch of folks all around.

My personal thanks to Joe Alexander for having John Macartney attend and for pointing out folks to talk to and promote the TTA Drive in this initial kickoff.

Epic!
