Axle nuts

Hello

Very quick question - what size are the front and rear axle nuts on a BT7? I need to get a socket to fit and need to know which size to get.

Thanks

Myles

8 sided, 56mm socket. It's not available in a regular US store. 6 and 12 sided ones don't work. AHSpares sells one, or you might have luck borrowing one from a Healey friend like I did. Also Left side one is reverse threaded!

A 1-1/8" deep socket fits the front stubaxle. I didn't like the stamped-steel "sockets" available for the rear hub, so I made my own.

There's somebody selling them on Ebay

Also recently an original factory Churchill tool sold and I noticed it has a bar through the middle which locates in the axle housing to take the side load from tightening it. that means the nut only gets the rotational force and there is no chance of it slipping off.

Moss or British Car Specialists sells the stamped socket . The MGA takes a smaller one than the Healey both are octagonal. I've used mine with an impact and they've held up ok. Randy's would last longer obviously. Only if you were doing this job daily would the Churchill tool be necessary as its way overbuilt. The nuts are a little pricey , try not to ruin them when you remove them. Kevin

Oops yes, thanks for pointing that out John. There was a correct socket listed a few months back, just not that particular one.

Andy.
