Reid was waiting for his new Avons to arrive when last I heard from him. How goes it Mr. Editor? How about others here who have the Avons? Are they worth the $$$

I've got my new Avon's and Spline Drive Superlites both still in the garage awaiting the first track day at PIR on March 4th. I'm anticipating rain for this early spring outing to shake down the big Healey before HMSA's opener at Thunderhill Raceway the following weekend. I'll report back after the days run.

I've had a set of hard compound 185 70's CR6 zz's on my BJ8, they are just about ready for replacement. They have lasted about 12,000 hard miles and have been very good, better than any previous tyres on the car. Even the hard compound tyres are very good in the wet.I'm going to put the same tyres on again.

12,000 miles sounds just about right. I expect to put on no more than 1500 miles per year. So after 6 or 7 years, I will be getting close to the end of the tread and the life of the rubber.

I just recently got my new wheels and tires after a nearly two-month transit from England (the boat ride to the US East Coast was short; it was the truck ride from New Jersey to Oregon and the red tape that were time-consuming).

I have put only a very few miles on them (we're currently celebrating the Oregon Rain Festival, January 1-December 31), and based on those few miles they feel fine, but I have not driven hard on them. They are the hard-compound variant, but they look and feel quite soft. I suspect that they are excellent-handling, but I also suspect that their life is quite limited.

Worth it? Hard to gauge. I don't drive my Healeys very hard, so I now have tires that are likely much better than what I really need. More than that I cannot yet say.
