Austin Healey Script on Boot Lid

John,
That is exactly what mine looked like.
This was a " no brainer " for me.
Get a large drill bit and drill an access hole through the support piece of metal. On your picture it is the center of the red circle.
Viola ! problem solved.

Yes that is possible John, I have seen several cars including one of mine where the badge holes have been misplaced.--Keoke

Two possible responses:

- Really? Which of your holes is misplaced?

- Misplaced holes? Where did you last see them?

(Hey, you do it all the time. I gotta be allowed a zinger every couple of years. We love you, man!)

Hey Keoke, if you find the misplaced holes please look to see if there are any small parts in there that I lost during my restoration! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Oh sh... , I just raised a simple issue and now you guys have gone and upset Roger, because he has now found out that his BEAUTIFUL BJ8 has the rear Austin Healey script in the wrong place on the boot lid. The placement on my car is exactly as on John Loftus's. Sorry Roger! You still have the best cup holder in the Healey Universe and mine is second best because I stole your idea.

This whole thing was obviously a design error and should have been remedied somewhere in the production cycle.

OMG my script is in the wrong place?
How do we know mine is not in the right place and all the other Healeys are wrong? Yeah, that's what I'm saying. You want a piece of me?

I simply post a photo of the inside of my trunk to find that I have to now take the car back to the body shop and say, OK, who moved the script? So ya didn't think I'd find out did ya. Oh yeah, well I know guys who know guys who know a thing about a thing or two about the all important Healey scrip placement. That's right, the factory intentionally made the scrip placement so that one of the speed clips are near impossible to get to.

So let's take the boot off, grind the paint off, fill the holes, move the scrip so that it's very hard to get to the second pin. After making new holes and covering the entire boot with bondo, again, paint it, but make sure the paint doesn't quite match. So that the guys here, (Lin) can point that out to me too. Way to go Lin. Hey anyone want to buy a nice Healey? Disclaimer, the boot scrip is off.

How do I know? I posted a photo of the inside of my boot. No good deed, goes unpunished.
Cheers,
Roger

Hey Roger,
First, I love your car - it is beautiful! Second, Could you get the measurements of your script location so that I can have the body shop move mine to the same location as yours? Then I would be able to get Randy's timmerman -tinnnerman - nut to actually go on. By the way, as Butch Cassidy said, "who are those guys?" that you know?

There is only one thing better than these cars, and that is the people who own them! Thanks to everyone who offered an opinion or some help on this matter. Don't worry I am not even going to ask about those holes (and their purpose) that are behind the flash trim on the front fenders.

Everybody have a great Healey weekend.

Don't worry .. I'm sure DH would have approved of your 'modification' You might want to write a 'how to' article for one of the national mags to get people to move their badges. Then you can be in the majority! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Cheers,
John

Hey Lin, I know you didn't ask but it obvious those holes are for ventilation. If you happen to cover them up then watch out for overheating. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif
