Are you signed up for a "subscription" yet??

Re: Are you signed up for a "subscription" yet??

I'd like to retain the "donate" feature and pay directly w/o subscription for those of us who do not suscribe so that we can give whenever we have the extra $. I'd PayPal if I knew the address to send payment to.

I don't need the upload, file attachment stuff anyway but would still like to support this forum.

Without subscription, you can still post a link to info from your own website storage, can't you?

Otherwise, I assume any info you upload becomes the property of Basil (just like all the other "free" picture posting sites that are out there) and you give up your rights to anything uploaded to the BCF site.

First it was the Star Wars user rating based solely on # of posts, now Bronze - Platinum subscription status also displayed below your user info. Geez, are little gold colored stars coming next? Is this "info" posted to impress someone? Then, why? (And yes, I read about why subscription is necessary for this forum.)

I'm sure that I will now be even more unpopular. But growing up in the 60's, I developed my spirited nature and I respectfully retain my rights to independence from the moral majority. Just lettin' my freak flag fly, always have, always will. This is America, after all.

Everybody's entitled to an opinion, this is just mine at the moment.

BTW, I am growing my hair long (freak flag to the uninformed) for the Locks of Love organization https://locksoflove.org/ - an organization that makes wigs for children the have lost their hair during medical (chemo)treatments. Those of us that still do have hair might consider it; at least consider hair donations from other non-follicularly-challenged family members. Don't save Sally's precious ponytail in a drawer, SHARE IT.

Feh!! Do you have any idea of what you are talking about??????????? And of course you know what happens when you "assume" don't you :hammer: ? I do grant you that you are "entitled" to your point of view, "child of the sixties" who is SO concerned about property rights (???)...Peace love and happiness from one who lived it and loved it!! :savewave:

And just FYI, if you checked the "subscription box", the paypal info that you "say" you would use is right there plain as day!

Re: Are you signed up for a "subscription" yet??

Peter, you're right "child of the 60's" you are entitled to your opinion. I'll give you mine in a PM...mmmmk?

Re: Are you signed up for a "subscription" yet??

Just give me your PayPal address instead, that's all I asked for. I just don't want to "subscribe."

Defensive, hostile replies and PMs are not required.

Re: Are you signed up for a "subscription" yet??

Too much coffee this morning?

I did check the subscription box and there is no way to donate unless I subscribe. It's OPTIONAL as I understood it. I DID say that I wanted (and have in the past) donate. The whole reason this subscription stuff came about is because MOST OF YOU did NOT donate $$ to keep things going.

We should all be concerned about anything we post on the internet. Especially anything that could identify you (plate #s, VINs, etc.). I am very concerned about my PRIVACY (which I am entitled to n'est pas?)

"Child of the 60s" is YOUR term. My point was that I am independent (thought I explained that).

Take a chill pill man. No, take two.

I tried and I tried, but got stuck in a PayPal loop in which I had to enter a new password. I would do so, and it said that I had done it successfully, but then I had to do it again.

Isn't there another way to pay besides PayPal?

I tried again with a different credit card and e-mail address and it worked.

That will be available again soon.

The post-count ratings is just part of the functionality of this software - all I did was change the rating names to something I thought was more fun...which is those ratings only purpose - fun. The other titles are there more for MY benefit that anything else. I debated using them at all, but decided it would be a convenient way for me to quickly determine who was what for administrative purposes. And it does serve alert new members that subscriptions are available (but not manddatory).

Good for you.

Sounds like a great cause...I'm happy to hear of your efforts. Speaking of which, I'll soon be announcing a sponsor program for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). My wife and I are instructors for the NAMI Familty-toFamily program - a 12 week course we teach to help people with loved ones who suffer debilitating brain disorders. Rather than donate to the forum, perhaphs you would sponsor us when we do our NAMI 5-mile walk in May. All donations would be through NAMI's secure site...no money touches our hands - we just collect the pledges.

Just so you know - I have had voluntary donations for a while now and have found that the amount of money raised just was not cutting it. Over the years, I've spend much more than I've taken in. As much as I appreciated the folks who did donate, I determned that I needed a positive cash flow for my efforts here if I was going to be able to continue the BCF. Part of the reason for this is personal - we have a son who suffers a serious brain disorder and I started thinking about how we were going to pay for his very expensive insurance and medical expenses when I retire and am on a fixed income. At that time in my life, if BCF does not provide some positive cash flow and remained a cash drain (not to mention a tremendous time drain), I just don't feel I could keep it going.

Please keep in mind that, while you are entitled to your opinion, it is not reasonable to expect that others who might disagree with you should not be allowed to respond with their own opinions.

The bottom line is, the subscription idea is something that many many members suggested and we discussed for over a week in the Forum Happenings before I ultimately decided to give it a try. So far it seems to be working well - much better than the voluntary donation thing did. But I want to stress that 1) NO ONE is obligated to be a subscribing member 2) I won't think less of folks who don't become subscribers - everyone has their own financial priorities in life. 3) If this becomes an us-vs-them thing, I'm not going to continue it (I'll refund all monies so far and close the [censored] place)

If this sounds defensive, I'm sorry, I guess I'm just letting my own freak flag fly.

Re: Are you signed up for a "subscription" yet??

And to everyone in thread - knock off the personal comments. This is precisely what I was afraid of when this idea was proposed by several members.

Re: Are you signed up for a "subscription" yet??

I will sign up next week, I am on the road. I don't like to use paypal from questionable internet connections. Without this website I don't know how my restoration would be progressing.

Thanks Basil.

Re: Are you signed up for a "subscription" yet??

I'm in and thank you Basil for everything you have done!!

Unexpected reply Basil. Thank you.

My wife is a two time cancer survivor, 12 years apart. We just finished her chemo and radiation in December 07.

We would GLADLY sponser you and your wife in May. Count us in for $10 per mile. I challenge any and all forum members to do the same.

But I still want to donate to the forum as soon as you reinstate the function.

thanks again.
