Anyone using a Good GP2 cam?

I have a GP2 cam, and like it. Good low down torque, but I am not really sure how much of that is down to the cam - I fitted a Fidanza flywheel and removed the fan at the same time, and I also fixed the burned exhaust valves and increased compression, so the whole engine is very different. No problems with power though, and as I said, pulls nicely from low revs, which was my concern when going to a "performance" cam.

Cheers

Hi Alistair

I am going to increase compression also. I am considering the aluminum flywheel not sure about this piece.

What is the highest RPM you rev to? How does the cam pull at 4000-5000 RPM?

I am looking for a smooth Idle and good power to 5500 RPM with a lot of low end torque.

Hi Ross

The car gets used most to ferry my 4 year old daughter to and from the ice cream shop, so it doesn't get revved very much - it has certainly been past 5000 rpm, though, and felt strong enough to me.

No problem with the idle, and no complaints from me on performance (though it is worth pointing out that my everyday "family" car is a boring Ford Taurus, and it is a lot faster than the TR6!)

Cheers

Hi Alistair,

I know what you mean about the Taurus being faster, I feel the same way about my 4 cylinder Saturn.

Who did your engine work?

I am northern NJ (Little Falls), I am looking for a machine shop with TR experience.

Hi Ross

I did the rebuild myself, only sent the head out to Cylinder Head World (based on location - just a few miles away from me in central NJ), and he also cleaned the passages in the block for me - I was lucky to have no real wear in the bores, so just went with new rings.

I know there is a machine shop in Sayreville where someone on a mailing list got his TR6 engine done (Eddie's Speed Shop, I think). The TR6 guy seemed happy, but I have a friend who drives a Snap On truck, and he had some bad things to say about that particular machine shop. And no, he won't give me a discount on Snap On tools - some friend, right?

Cheers
Alistair

Your redline will remain the same if you just replace the cam and increase the compression. Those changes should help it get there faster.
