anyone have a disc brake setup they want to part?

Current bid is over $ 75.00 plus $ 85.00 shipping an 4 days to go. Is it still a deal?

What's a good price for a used set up?

So there are alot of original cars out there. I love them all. But for me, I need to make a few updates. Not that the disc's will even be that big of sn improvement, but it 's a peace of mind thing.

I agree lock up is not the best way to stop your car, but having the option of modulating your brake pressure is a confidence builder.

I needed a disc brake setup, and a 3.9 rearend. So I just started asking around my local British car club. Suddenly, I had several people trying to sell me parts cars. These ranged from $125 to $300. Sure, it is a little extra work to part out a car, but I found all sorts of other things on the car I could use that I didn't consider before (Everyone needs an extra set of axles...right?) And... I was able to help out other members of the forum with odds 'n ends parts.

Trevor is absolutly right, if you have the storage area, an old parts car (usually they go for under $300) is the only way to go for so much stuff! You can get your complete front end along with most other things that the need may arise for down the line!

Sigh, when you live in a gated community a parts car is just out of the question. No place to hide it even for awile.

I live in a similar neighborhood. But, you can strip the car in one day (in the garage) and haul to the scrap yard the following day. As long as I don't do it every weekend, nobody complains. However, they do seem to have an issue with running a grinder at 1 am (who could know that?)

I hear Ya, I'm not in a real hurry for the brake stuff. It's only a weekend job to change it over. For the cost of the set on ebay I could find a parts car within 500 miles I think. I have the space for cars even in town. So I think I'll keep looking. If anyone gets wind of a disc brake parts car in MN or WI. drop me a note ya.

Jack, you can fit 2 spridgets in the place of 1 car in your garage -- I know this from experience. Roll it over to strip it out, roll it back for storage. I've been doing this all winter, keeping the garage door closed to keep in the heat. I'm sure glad I went the parts car route, got lots of nice bits for future use.

I was afraid that stuff on ebay would price itself out of the picture. Would have been a deal at or near the opening bid!! As stated above, a parts car that can be stripped of what is needed in short order is the way to go if possible. Trevor, some people just don't understand the neccessity of grinding in the wee hours, go figure!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whistle.gif

I get most of my visitors late at night. Seems I have the only light on. No telling what big dog is going to lick my ear. Master right behind of course. They all know me and check from time to time.

Yea, have good neighbous and live on a hidden end so no prob for a few days.

Just may do that one day. Lots of other things on my plate first.

Use to have a whole car striped, cleaned, and so forth stored away in the upstairs, boxed and labeled even. Fresh engine even built up. Was nice to have but then Moss is not far away anylonger and I dont't need the car for work.

Maybe you should post which components you want and how much you'd be willing to pay, and it might motivate someone to part with what they have or keep a closer eye out for a parts car.

I have a setup off of a 74 MG. Kings pins are good, will need calipers rebuilt, new rotors and new susp bushings. Needs degreased, cleaned and painted. If you are interested PM me.

A parts car can net you sometimes, 4 or 5 times what you pay for it on Ebay in the parts you can sell off it, there are plenty of people doing just that. So it fair to fiquire you get the parts car, you get the parts you want real cheap, just got to work alittle to get them off and cleaned up, then a little higher if you buy it from someone who took it off and then even higher if you if if someone took it off, cleaned it up and reconditioned it. I bought a parts car not too long ago, and sold the exhaust manifold, the spin on filter adapter and the front hubs and broke even on what I paid for the car, the rest is pure profit, I kept the engine, steering rack, suspension, rear end and gave the rest of the car to a buddy to part out for me and he made enough money off the rest of the stuff for the time and effort he put into parting it out.

Shame you don't live closer to me, I've got a parts car right now given to me and I don't really want to mess with it, I think the guy is getting impatient and I don't really wnat it that bad.

Re: anyone have a disc brake setup they want to pa

OK, Taz (Carl) has graciously agreed to sell me the disc brake parts I need for the Shealey.

I have a question though... Are the lower control arms the same for the early Bugeye's and the later Sprites?

If they are the same he won't need to ship them and we can reduce the shipping weight.

Anyone know for sure?

Re: anyone have a disc brake setup they want to pa

Shealey, as far as I know, the only difference in the control arms is that the later ones have the reinforcement for the sway bar on them.

Ok, I have a dumb question then.

What is needed? Spindles and brake parts only?
