Animated Engines

I looked at that moving GIF of the 4-stroke engine, stopping it at certain times......to me, it looks like the points are opening just as the spark occurs (which is correct).

S'why I asked if they were on a dial-up /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Looked FINE from over here. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif

The important thing is that they open at the appropriate time.

It just appears that their closing causes the spark.

In reality they don't have to be closed very long to energize the coil

Perhaps the artist was concerned about burning out points & didn't draw a base circle + lobe for the points rub block to follow?

Hmm...I guess that'd be a consideration I hadn't thought about... Posting in the "Other Cars" here: "HELP! How do I chenge the points in my 2001 GIF?"

...thanks Dave. I'll be the rest of the day wonderin' about what GAP they should get. Pixels or inches...sheesh.

Depends on the Compression ratio.

What's the compression ratio? ...in Points.

Not unless they're running T-1s through a phone these days. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The Sterling engine is really neat... I look at it wondering if it would be possible to modify an old VW Bug engine to work as one... Hmm...
