Ok
Mythbusters is officially on my no watch list.
Tonight they destroyed a rb midget trying to do flips for stunts.
maybe we can ruin their daily rides, just for revenge!

:madder:

Jeez, I chopped my 1967 up with a Sawzall and put it into a dumpster a few years ago. Are you mad at me too?

Actually it was kinda fun. It was all over in less than an hour..... Surprising how fast it all chopped up and fit into the trash despite the fact there was only some light surface rust.

Coming from the east coast, and now living in rust city, I just can't imagine why they throw out some of this stuff in California. It's like they are "dis-respecting" us in the rest of the country by scrapping perfectly good cars just because they have a bit of surface rust. And yes, Mythbusters fits in that category.

If only it was like that..... I tried to give this car away free for months, advertised on Craigslist and on the Yahoo Spridget site. I was not aware of this site at the time, but would have put it on here too. So what am I supposed to do? Rent a garage for the next 20 years to avoid disrespecting the rest of the country? I will be damned if I will pay monthly fines to my HOA just to keep a junk car that I do not want and cannot even give away.....

If it makes you feel any better I did give the fiberglas hardtop and a couple of small parts to the only guy who bothered to respond to my ads. I also put the engine, axle, steering etc in my Westfield, but there was still a complete body with only a little surface rust, ribcase, seats, instruments and all the rest. Good bumpers, windshield and frame, hood and trunk too.

Lot's of people talk about parting out an old car, ever tried to actually do that in a gated neighborhood with strict CC&R's? Do you feel like setting up parts racks in your garage since you can't keep them in the driveway and the backyard is a garden not a junkyard (as my wife put it). How about spending your time off removing rusted bolts and parts and packing and shipping them. And all this at zero profit to you and the expense of your free time that you used to spend working on projects that you actually care about. Oh yes, and you can't start working on your kit car, since the garage is full of rusty Spridget and will be for months to come.

Been there, done that, and never going back there again. I have learned my lesson: a rusty old Spridget is worth less than zero dollars, since you have to pay to get rid of it. Talk is cheap, but despite what people will say on forums like this, nobody will put their money where their mouths are. Based upon my experience, that is a fact not speculation.

You folks in the hinterlands have no idea what we have to put up with in our gated communities. I would go on at length but I have to stuff the last bits of my Voisin into the dumpster before the trash guy arrives.

The same thing happened to me with a 1968 MGB I drug around for years. I probably spent $4000 in storage fee's before I finally decided to get rid of it. I advertized it everywhere I thought I would find people interested in taking it(free!), but no one wanted it. I finally had to beg a wrecking yard to take it! And they wanted me to pay them a disposal fee!

Actually not all old Spridgets on SoCal get cut up!
I just hauled one up here to Seattle for RickB to make into a car.
The only problem (I had an empty trailer coming this way) is the normal shipping costs, it would have been a huge amount if I wasn't driving this way already!

Please do not put words into my mouth. I never said anything about hinterlands or implied any snobbery. I worked very hard in my life to be able to afford a home in a nice neighborhood and I will make no apologies for that. I simply stated that things are different in gated communities with strict CC&R's. In my case this means no RV's, no inop cars in front or back yards, no vehicles parked more than 7 days w/o moving them, no boats, jet skis, snowmobiles or quads parked outside of the garage and no trailers.

This makes it impossible to part out a car in the traditional manner of leaving it up on blocks in the front yard with a parts for sale sign on it like I did when I lived out in the Delaware countryside.

Sorry too, the interweb is no place for subtlety or nuance. I am always getting in trouble for kidding around in forums, mostly for sarcasm which does NOT work well in print for me......

Again sorry for getting my feathers ruffled, have a happy holiday today.

So, if you go on vacation for two weeks and only take one car, do you have someone come over and move your other cars around for you?

I too am in a gated community.

I put parted car to be disposed of in garage and take it apart. Truck is in driveway meanwhile. Gets used daily. When finished the junk yard guy backs up to garage in driveway and snakes car on. Truck back in garage. Takes about a week.

Only complaints I have ever had was when trailer was in drive way. Fixed that by putting in garage and leaving truck out. Poor Poor truck.

Well it appears to me(just my opinion) that folks have given up a lot to move from the country to the city. I know I live in the boondocks but if I want to burn a pile of old tires in my front yard all I'm going to get for doing it is the neighbors shaking there heads as they drive by. If I want to start a junk yard of old spridgets(wife says I already have!!)the only concern is the valuable land they take up(not that valuable). I know about gated communitys. I wanted to buy a car on fleabay and have it left by the seller at a friend's gated house in Pheonix. No could do cause of gated rules. I don't need gates cause I expect the neighbors to watch out for me and I do the same for them. If need be I'm well armed but if I thought I had to be I would move.

I like the boonies!!

The thing that makes me mad is all my favorite places are getting too crowded!!

Kurt.

"The whole thing's upside-down"

Just so's ya'll keep proper perspective, there's a bunch of ~real rules~ called sorta-sommat-whut's akin to a "Constitution".

...gawd, I'm gonna be punished fer this...

I think it is just the gated communities that are like this, or just the coasts. I live in Minneapolis and have had my first car (1990 Integra) parked next to the garage for years...also keep sprite parts out all the time. It's so hard to get rid of my first car...it's just so beautiful!

The only problem I have is the neighbors keep coming over asking about the progress...
