I was pretty close to dropping a late model Rover 4.0 into it - which would be a pretty quick car - but have come to the realization I need to get her into better long term ownership than I am providing for her.
 
I was unable to convince my son to go with the SD1 even with the offer of a trip to California to pick it up. He went with the Volvo. My daughter, if I could find a SD1 with a cool paint scheme, would be all over it.

As a heads-up, all the oily bits are pretty easy to source. The trim etc is the pain, it all has to come from the UK and not all of it is available. I've stored her in the desert and her sheet metal is OK. Needs some localized rust repair, but to be honest she is pretty tired. Solid, but tired.

looks like a good thing, suprising what ya can find under the hood. heater in my driver just made funny noise, took it apart and found both a mouse and his, her nest. no parts needed, just cleaned it out. heat is back, i suppose not as important in CA. i do like the volvo of yours.
 
Those old Volvos are very cool. I admit that I've considered one every now and then.

They were actually pretty fast back in the day - lots of rally success. Check out this YouTube video - it is directly responsible for my lack of discipline in picking up another car.

Did I hear the whine of a supercharger as the Volvo went by on the you tube video?
 
Hi Al - Not sure if that is supercharger or straight cut gears. I'd bet straight cut gears - what do you guys think?

Also - based on some research on the web <span style="font-weight: bold">and on pushing the darn thing on and off the trailer</span> the Volvo doesn't weight any more than, say, a TR6.

My first car in 1974 was a 144 Volvo. Had SU's. Drove it a couple of years and then the fun started. Traded it in on my first LBC a Spitfire. Since the 70 Volvo I had a 1975 242, 1981 242DL, 1987 740 turbo (my favorite of all my cars excluding my TR's) and now 1990 740. Rock solid cars. In fact my 740 turbo had 356k on it when I gave it to my son for a winter car and it still has the original turbo charger in it. Amazing!! Here is a name and phone number of a guy in Ravenna, Oh. He has done lots of my work and is known as the for most expert on Volvos. He has acres of Volvos for parts.
