Any John Wayne movie!!

Don't know if it really qualifies, but I really like Casablanca. Even the French looked and acted good!

A Triumph made to look like a BMW

Somewhere I think I read that it was one of his personal bikes.

I agree, except I really can't stand reading subtitles. I liked the director's cut version, but some of the dubbed voices were horrible! The first officer (I think) sounded like a cartoon character, some of the others were just not done very well.

That's one movie I really wanted to see in 70mm when it was re-released but they only had it at one theater at a night viewing in DC. Darn.

Das Boot - definitely.

But I can't ignore "The Best Years of Our Lives"

That is one heck of a fine WW2 story. And it takes place just after the Japanese surrender.

Don't make me choose a favorite war movie! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazyeyes.gif I like so many.

"Saving Private Ryan" is certainly at the top of my list. Modern filming techniques (hand-held cameras at the beach landing scenes) render it one of the most realistic of all, I think. Great cast, too.

Being a Frank Sinatra fan, I'm fond of "Von Ryan's Express". Also, "The War Lover" with McQueen is a good one, too.

And of course, "Midway", a true block-buster. I first saw it in the theater in "surround sound" the first movie I can recall with modern stereo sound system.

Not a WWII film, but "The Blue Max" is also a fave. Starring a young George Peppard, it's about WWI flying aces. If you haven't seen it, do. The dogfight scenes are thrilling.

Love them war movies! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

"H.ell in the Pacific" starring Lee Marvin and ToshirĹŤ Mifune.

As a kid, I was inspired by movies like "Run Silent, Run Deep" and "Torpedo Run" to serve on submarines. When I joined the Navy they were not taking anyone wearing glasses, but a couple of years later they changed the policy. But by then, I figured that serving on a ship that intentionally sank itself for weeks on end was not for me.

Good choices, I also have to add in 12 O'Clock High with Gregory Peck. Another one of my favorites in addition to all the John Wayne movies..

I like too many to call any a favorite. However, I can say without any uncertainty that the one I DISlike most is "Flags of Our Fathers"... "Letters from Iwo Jima" is better, but barely; so it falls into my "second least favorite" slot.

There are so many great ones it is hard to pick A favorite. No-one has mentioned "A Walk in the Sun"! One of my favorites, along with "Sahara"!
