Anatomy of a Harley muffler

Don't use the choke if it's cranking that quickly. I never use mine, just spin till you're ready then depress and release the pedal about 1/4" quickly one time. Check your timing. Mine (1500) is at ~12-14 deg BTDC. Retarding timing increases exhaust noise, advancing timing make it quiter. Check to see where you are. You should do that every so often anyway.

If you're gonna replace the muffler you might as well modify the one you have just for kicks.

IIRC you still have your plug in with just a hole in it, right?

No that is not an option. # 2 is a:encouragement: keeper

I think I found a way to keep my wife too..... put on the FLH HD muffler.... sounds great. A little restrictive, so I'm thinking I'll knock out a plug and see if she notices.

Some of the classic Mini guys use that size. I wasn't sure how they'd work on a spridget. I saw GPparts had some nice ones listed (not cheap).

I didn't think you could go lower in profile than a 175 70R13 on a SWA Spridget. IS there some special offset with wheels or springs that allowsd this size tire to fit?

Not that I'm aware of, just mount 'em up and shove 'em in. :peaceful:

Oh, stupid me. Nice catch Jim, I thought he said 175/70. I think my car would rub with 50's.

175 is the width. 50 is the profile. So a 50 series tire has a height that is 50% of the width. A 70 series tire has a height that is 70% of the width.
So his tires are short. Great for acceleration, not so great for high speed cruising.

Correct, they'll also be a tad wider too even though they are both supposedly 175's. Apparently not everyone agrees exactly what constitutes a factual aspect ratio. Millions of years ago when I sold tires not all of them were even close to the same dimentions even though they were the same size. I've seen widths vary b/w manufacures by as much as an inch with the same size tires. I think some manufactures count the tread on the sidewall at the corner as width not unlike a 19" TV isn't measured straight across. I've also seen tires be different widths with the same maufacturer even though the width portion of the aspect ratio was the same but had a different rim and height size.

His are definatly wider than my 175's which rub a tad now. I need new tires and like the way those look but my roads might not be so kind.

Yep and NLA!

If you only drive in the summer, then you could get a yokohama A539 tire in that size... or a dunlop sp2000. Both of those are $$$.

Is it vinyl? Maybe score it a bit to allow some solvent to penetrate to the adhesive.
