An Alternate Alternator?

It didn't come with a fan & pulley? I thought that you bought a new unit?
 
I did, But they didnt!

The shaft is larger on the new unit, so niether of them fit from the old unit...
 
You could call Brad at Yankee Auto Electric in Pawtucket, RI and tell him that I told you to call. (401) 726-0291 Give him the size of your shaft and pulley width/diameter. Tell him what you need and I'm sure that he'll have something that will fit.

Or....you could call the others back and complain and get what you actually ordered.
 
Kodanja, I did it the hard way. I first bought an autozone upper support bracket, and then shortened it so that the new alternator fit about where I wanted it, then I realized the fan belt was the wrong size. It took several trips to the auto parts store, and a helpful clerk to find a belt that fit. If I was doing it again, I would pick and attach the belt, THEN cut the upper support bracket to the correct length. It's amazing how much difference a half an inch of belt length makes in the position of the alternator.
 
I did a Bosch reman alternator in my Tr250. After months of research I could not have been happier. I purchased it off an Internet sight for around $50. I was literally a bolt up fit. I did have to modify the tighting bracket by grinding off some metal and I think it had to be turned upside down too.

The electrical connections I used an actual Bosh pig tail that I got from a local Mercedes Benz dealer and spliced it in the harness. One on line info site a guy use his existing female spade connectors in the terminal block by simply pulling then out and installing them directly and separately on the alternator spades.

The alternator has a internal regulator built into it so you will have to cut and jump wires in the harness to make it work. Mine is only 50 amp because there is some concern about overloading the original wires. 55 and over they were recommending running an extra wire to carry the extra load. Also the amp gauge would not register properly. There were also many warnings not to use 1 wire alternators.

It's been over 4 years now and I could not find my info. just take your time do your research and you'll be fine. I found this link to one like I purchased. Parts America gives you 13 options for this alternator.

A lot of new alternators don't come with pulleys. Most NAPA stores will have them. I would suggest a few taps with an impact wrench when screwing it on, as I remember the threads go in the "screw off" direction when being used.

There's essentially only two size shafts (15mm & 17mm) on automotive alternators. Any local shop will have something to fit, especially in the 17mm shaft size, as that is much more common.
 
I had a buddy of mine bring it to a local shop today, he said he would try to have it matched up.

Seems that the mouning of the new unit should be a direct fit out, without modification to the bracket. I guess I'll find out when I go to put it on.

Note that only the A/C or "heavy duty electrical" versions had the Bosch alternator. "Standard" alternator was a Motorcraft unit with different mounts and connections.
 
Kodanja, did you ever get the alternator installed? Details please. Alt. model #, alterations needed, wiring exactly as done etc.
 
The saga continues....
I brought The original Lucus Alt. to an auto electric shop, they bench tested it at 22amps.
they re-fitted the core and regulator, then bench tested at 52amps.
I put it all back together and all systems go! (so far)

Interesting as the Lucas' I am familiar with, that came on Triumphs is only rated 35 amps. I thought that when the A/C kits came out they were using the Delco upgraded alternator, which should be around 55 amps. It is quite doable to upgrade the internals of the 35 ampLucas(if you can get parts) to increase the output.
 
I went by napa today, and the Fiesta alternator has a totally different mounting. The lucas has a space between the two mounting feet, and the fiesta a solid mounting with no space for the bracket, or spacers. I'm confused, I would think all fiesta models would be the same. One would have to carve out a 2-3 inch section to mount.

Nope ! Two completely different alternators on the same make, model and year. You have to get the <span style="color: #000099">Bosch</span> alternator, which is only found on cars with A/C or factory HD electrical. The "standard" unit is a Motorcraft with the solid foot.

It all depends how how much the shop loaded down the alternator. If you load an alternator down to about 12.5 volts, they will put out much more then they are rated for. Most alternators are rated when loaded down to about 13.7 volts. A lot of shops will do that to show you how much their rebuilt alternators put out. No alternator will last too long when loaded down that far. At work, we load between 13.2 volts and 13.4 volts for test purposes, and even then, they put out more then their OE rating.
 
Roofy, you need the Fiesta with the extra amperage. I can't remember what extras where on the car. It is in 1 of the post. I had one all set up on my car and sold it to a fellow TR fan for $25.00 ,never ever used.
 
There were some Delcos fitted to early TR6 (up to 71 according to the TRF catalog), but only rated at 35 amps (the stock Lucas at that time was only 28 amps). Later the more powerful Lucas alternators came out, for example 18ACR rated at 45 amps was fitted to later TR6 and Stag.

Lucas made even more powerful alternators, but they were physically larger, eg 25ACR rated at 65 amps and fitted to some TR7/8 and 11AC rated at 63 amps (I think it was) to some Jaguar.

I actually count something like 17 distinct alternators fitted to various TR6 over the years (only two of them Delco).
