Amp, MP3 player and speakers of choice?

I have provided a link below to some images of my Creative Speakers install. Please excuse the messy wring. I have been checking components and have not yet "cleaned up" the wiring, so my images don't look like Roger's yet! Of course, my car is a BT7. The "cigar lighter" power supply is located on the vertical brace for the parcel shelf. The top one used for the speaker power supply is not visible when seated in the car. I decided to put the speaker with the volume controls on the right side of the interior to make it a little easier to access, although I plan to leave the volume set and use the iPod to control volume. They sound great. Again, my "thanks" to Roger.

These look great. Do the speakers come with the brackets?

Also, where can I buy them?

I like the installation and I'm thinking of trying it myself. Did you get the car power adapter for the speakers from the manufacturer or is it a generic?

Thanks,
Drew

The power adaptor that comes with the Creative speakers plugs into the house current. You'll need the type that plugs into the car.

I used Radio Shack #227-1533

If keeping the car positive, reverse the wires of the lighter adaptor (270-1556)and make sure you isolate the connection to the car with the plastic mounting holder provided.

If using the Creative speakers,
you'll need two radio shack items:

or frankly you can cut off the cig lighter adaptor and just wire it directly into the radio lead on the car.

Hi Roger,

Your audio installation is excellent, and I really like your youtube vidéo. I m looking for an external hidden volume control for my IPod. I Will probably hid It in the cigar trash. I like your butom volume . What is It ?

I Will probably use creative speaker linked to my IPod, now I m looking for an external ipod charger and controler (volume, play, stop,...) ...

Hello Xte,
Thank you for your kind words about my audio installation and Youtube video.

A simple inline volume control can be found at places like Radio shack. Here's a couple photos of the inline style I'm referring to. 3rd and 4th photos are my set up.

If you want to hide a potentiometer in the ashtray like I did, you'll have to splice into the self powered computer speaker wires. You'll also have to cut an opening in one of the sides of the ashtray for the wires to get to the potentiometer, and figure out how you're going to screw or rivet the potentiometer to the ashtray to keep it in place. I bought my potentiometer and volume knob from Radio shack. I'm sure you can find other places that sell them too.

Good luck with your project.
Roger
