Not quite on the road but closer. I have to get the back side bracket piece so the alt is parallel with the mounting bracket. The mounting hole is just a smidgen to long.
So I've almost finish my retro fit. What I did to start was measure the outside of the Lucas pulley to the alt. mounting bracket and then subtracted 1/2 the pulley thickness to get centerline of the pulley (using a straightedge). I came up with X.
Now I have my new alt on the bracket and the center line of the pulley is .018 short of the stock Lucas. Is that ball park enough or should I work on it some more?
Yup! As long as the alternator is straight (shaft parallel with crank) that tenth is no prob. You'll see any "weirdness" with the belt on and tensioned by sighting down the belt from one pulley to the other. But it sounds like you're done with THAT task! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
As for the nut torque: wrap a belt around the pulley and use a stout piece of pipe or other "rod-like" piece to wrap it around to keep the pulley from spinning as you torque it down.
Or get one of the flexy rubber wrappers with a handle at the hardware store for a few bucks. The kind to take lids off jars. They hold these things nicely without ruining the blades.

On an air cond. 8 does the alt belt go on the outside pulley. Meaning the one toward the rad?Anybody still have air on theirs?
