I am going to change from the generator to a gm single wire alternator. If anyone has done this please let me know about the Lucas voltage regulator. The alternator is internally regulated but does anything feed through the old regulator or can I just gut it and keep the cover. thanks Skip

You could remove the insides of the control box & use it as as a junction box. Be sure to remove or cut the connection strips on the back side also. Actually you can leave the wires connected to their present terminals & just use internal jumpers in the gutted box.

The present wires on the A1 - one brn/blu, A - two brn, & D - two yel, terminals need to be connected together. The wires on the F & E terminals not used.

You should probably increase the size of the yel. wire from generator/alternator to control box junction to 10 gage. You may have to put a diode in the D wire that goes to the charge indicator/ignition light in the dash.

My only problem with a one-wire (GM) alternator was that is was big and heavy. When a mounting lug cracked on the unit, I switched to a small, light Mitsubishi 3 wire unit that I've been running for years now. The smaller Mitsu and Bosch alternators are popular for Sprite conversions and provide more than enough juice.
