alternator - new thread

well, the carb is back from the shop - the guy found nothing. reinstalled it and now it's flooding - fuel pouring out of the carb. I'm stumped so I've walked away from it for tonight anyway. Any thoughts gratefully received.

One question though, I forgot to reconnect the vacuum - and after the flooding, fuel was pouring out of the carb end of the vacuum - I presume this is normal since the vacuum would be connected to the barrel of the carb.

Of course, after removal and such the float valve stuck open. After all it was upside down and such I would bet.
 
well Jack you were very close - checked the floats and in the course of checking, realized the needle and seat assembly was sticking. Likely what caused the problem in the first place. Replaced it with the old one - reinstalled but now to sort out the timing. teach me to change only one variable at a time.
 
JP, those darn float valves are mostly the problem when carbs have been removed or let set so that they chambers dry. New seats and needles are not usually necessary just a bit of a bump with your finger. It is the what ever in gas when it drys.

May I suggest for all those with little cars in their garages for the winter. Get a super long shop vac hose and stick it on the exhaust, run it out side and then run the car till the oil gets hot every few weeks till it is time to hit the road again.
