Almost dropped a valve

I'm trying to finish up the street car rebuild and had to build a head so I decided that I would build a new head for the race car and swap that one over to the street car. Well I got the valve cover off and was a bit surprised. The aftermarket retainers were worn pretty bad. It wasn't like this at the end of last season so I really need to keep a better eye on these. They are the Isky aluminum retainers that are used with the thicker (smaller ID) valve springs. The steel ones that I modified are fine.

That was a bit close Chris.

Pretty sacry all right.

It's not missing, is wore its way down in the aluminum. I'll take more pics when I disassemble the head.

Holycow! Is there enuff oil gettin' up there?!?! That's just plain scary. I'll be interested to see what the keepers look like. I think I'd go back to steel. From the pix it kinda looks like #1 is doin' it too?

I wonder if the end of the coil on the spring is under cutting them. Could the springs have a burr on the end?
