AHS-3504 at Auction

From the RM Auctions YouTube channel:

Published on Feb 12, 20151955 Austin-Healey 100S tackles Sebring in this incredible vintage video provided by its consignor to our Amelia Island auction.

Here, the Healey team is coming into pit row. Jackie Cooper’s car (#42) comes in for gas and a driver swap, with Roy Jackson-Moore being replaced by Jackie Cooper.

Sold for $920,000 + 10% buyer's premium so $ 1,012,000 ! I honestly thought it would bring more with the Jackie Cooper history but "high cotton" territory regardless !!!

I would have thought more. I'd guessed $1.350m. Somebody STOLE it for a lousy million! (Just kidding.)

I agree, I thought 1.2m -1.3m would be the finial hammer.

Lot 167- The very rare Austin-Healey 100S, custom-ordered for actor Jackie Cooper sells for $1,012,000 #rmsothebys https://ow.ly/i/91amc

I was surprised and pleased it went that high. By the way, take a look at the selling prices for the other cars at this auction. These are some of the highest prices I have seen. Not many "bargains" to be found at all and a 98% sell rate suggests the sellers were happy to let them go. I think there was plenty of $$ in the room at this event. Others may want to argue that a 100S is worth more, but I'd take this result to the bank.

From a European perspective the 'provenance' of Jacky Cooper holds more sway in the USA than here in Europe. As a stand alone 100S (one of fifty) and therefore rare gives it its value. In addition add in the cost of importing the car to Europe (an additional 10% for import duty, etc). You might well argue that if you have a million to spend on a car then an additional 100,000 dollars is peanuts but it is worth considering..
