Ahhh, Maine

Don't know about snow in Maine but had an enchanting fall row at midnight there. Good guy trusted me with a down and dirty work boat w/ thole pins as opposed to oar locks, just said, mind the tide flatlander.

Good'n, Steve.

That's pretty good doc for a "yinzer" living in Florida :smirk:

I speak Mainah, Elliot. :smirk:

Not as idyllic today. Our ice storm has lasted 2 days now - everything is covered with the stuff. Power has been off and on several times. Our driveway is 1/3 mile up to the pavement, uphill, and is ice covered. I can hear trees, limbs, and ice hitting the ground over the noise of the generator.

To counter this we have 4 buckets of sand, 1/2 gallon of brandy, a case of wine, a box of cigars, and a gallon of "15-bean" soup.

Geez, what fun!

Funniest snow story I ever heard, about a Florida pastor who moved to pastor a large church here in Calgary... He wondered aloud why there were so many coat racks in the church foyer, he figured out why a few months later when winter hit...

And a nice inviting winter photo from earlier this winter here in Calgary...

And such a good photo to start the thread off, wish I had taken it...:rapture:

You really do get some great photos. Thanks for sharing.

Got here first - still almost 300,000 without power - 200,000+ in Toronto itself. Some are wondering if the power will be on before Christmas! We didn't loose power but, the church I was preaching in + the church I attend + had no power. We just our pastor & her family over for dinner as they have no power either.

Got the Bangor report last eve. Power out, generators running, ice on everything. Gah.

It'll be slightly below room temp here for the next few days; 72°F for the highs. Downright chilly.

You have my sympathy Doc. Hope you make it through all right.

Time for your big boy pants and socks.

I've found a solution but won't reveal it 'til a bit later in the week. :smirk:

Just had a knock on the door - it was a linesman letting us know our power is back! Finally! Luxury!

You couldn't tell? Knowing the power was back on has not typically been a challenge.

A fair question. We don't have an automatic transfer switch and the generator was on.

OK I'll give you that  Seriously, glad it is back on

Flew up to Bangor on Sunday to be with my Dad and the labrador for Christmas from Orlando. Lost power 6 hours after I arrived on Verona Island near Bucksport. Couldn't get the generator started so had to haul it to a small engine shop. He got it going with 1 pull. When we tried to start it at home "no soap". Took it back to the shop, got it started, and left it running in the back of the pick-up. Beautiful scenery in the 17 acres where my dad live. The crashing of heavy branches breaking was incredible. We had a great buffet one of the nights at a small restaraunt with linemen from Indiana. Also had a lot of running around to do to get power and heat to a couple of apartments my dad rents out. Power came back 3 hours before I left for the airport. Stepped off the plane into 70 degree weather in Orlando.

Good to hear you're back!

I escaped the 40°F temps here, ran to Miami for Christmas. Mid-80's to overnight low 70's there.
