after market steering wheel horn push set up

That's a good idea actually! I had a made a piece for it from the cap on an aerosol can. It had the correct OD! Covered it in vinyl and it was ready to go..then the slip ring issue tanked it. Investment was minimal thankfully (nil).
My concern now is getting the surround/slip ring mounted correctly on the dash such that it is centered around the column. Mocked it up and marked with washable marker. Need to drill and hope, can always tweak it a bit by enlarging the screw holes through the dash. It lines up like this though....because the surround has weird angling to it.

Looked at an original steering wheel on ebay a minute ago, it looks like the hub is much deeper and the horn push sits out further so thus the longer brush...I'll make something work. I hope.
 
I do too. I got a dash plank and stood there pondering should I restore the original dash or restore this wood one the PO's PO made. In the end I stuck with the wood one, it's pretty nice looking, especially now that I sanded and refinished it. In the late evening when the sun is low and the golden light is everywhere and it falls on the dash while I motor along the country roads, it's, well, just poetic.
 
yeah I thought about it for mine but went with a 67 dash the early seventy dashes were not iconic would be a good word. nice job

The tape should only cover the hole in the middle of the steering wheel, you're not using this to attach the pushbutton in place. This is what I did. Seems to work well. Now I have to measure 8 times and drill once to get the slip ring/surround on the sweet spot on the dash so it sits perfectly around the column when everything is bolted up....I'll have to cut the brush down a ton but that should be doable.

It sounds like everything is coming together. Sorry about having to modify anything on the dash to make things fit.

The whole dash is one big mod so no problem there I just don't want to ruin it with holes in the wrong place but, worst case scenario, I start over, not like I haven't had to start anything over before! Kinda too bad the ring surround thing has to be offset so much, sorta ruins the symmetry (OEM was similar though I think). I've decided to dry fit everything again before I commit to where I'm placing the surround on the dash, very little margin for error.
 
Finally got to the point where I could put the dash in and try the horn push. I spent some time shortening the brush but over did it, long story short, it seems to work great, not going down the road yet, but twisting the wheel in the driveway it goes off fine. Loud too (added a relay in the mix).

I saw in the other thread that you said you had to "add some back on". Can you add a blob of solder to the short end? I would think that would be preferable to the long end as the short end should stay in contact with the horn pushbutton connections and doesn't have to rub on anything continuously.

When you're happy with the dash, wheel, and horn pushbutton be sure to post a final picture.
 
I just "raised" the brass plate on the back of the push assembly by adding some more of those double sided adhesive things. I'll have to get another horn brush sometime and try again but it seems to work okay for now. Yep, I'll post a final picture.
