After 29 yrs She moves!

I like Banjos' dicription for the valance. My intent was to give it depth, by using black. Probably use just the grille badge, minus the silver cross bar, to give it a floating effect, like Shawns'. The grille will also have the stainless top and bottom trim. Another improperly done by the PO is the gloss black on the back side, POT (personal owners taste) Stay tuned for more POT.

Yes it has Matt. Started the restore about 5 years ago.
The only nut screw or bolt that was not touched are the tub to frame mountings.

Easy, it is Deja Vu all over again, that is the same exact sequence that I took to restore my TR6 - body-on-frame. Woulda, coulda, shoulda...taking the body off just wasn't an option, it worked out.

When does she get finished???

TR6BILL, not sure how long too finish. Maybe a month or so,at the rate I move. My biggest dread is registration and the Motor VehicleDept. After 29 yrs, it is not in the computer, and I hear the Highway Patrol doesn't take kindly to seeing fresh paint under the vin tag.

Take a photo album along and showed them that you restored it, not flashed a quickie paint job on it to hide a stolen car.

Like they say, a true sports car has nothing on it that doesn't make it handle better or make it faster.

Looks like the right combination to me! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif

Yes, those wheels are cool!!

Easyrider, fantastic job. I too am putting the same Z wheels on my car. What mods did you have to do to get them to fit.

Yeahbaby, If you go back to yesterdays topic 11:11 am Nissan wheels on a Tr6. you find some info. The bolt pattern of a Z is the same as a Tr6, except the lug nuts for the Z are metric and the Tr are 7/16 chevy. You will have to find a lug with a shank diameter of .746 (diameter of a Z lug) to .750" and 1/2" in shank length. Most mag lugs have a dia. of .685. The lug nuts center the wheel on the hub. I was able to find some lugs with .723" dia. which I have mounted at present, but the car has not been driven yet, because it's still in restore mod. One of our BCF members, Tosh, had a great tip, which you can read in the other post. His tip used 2 lugs, I use 3 with the taper,
to center the wheel. I also used 100 ftlbs of torque, which maybe over kill, but I did not want the wheel shifting on the hub. The closes I could come to that size Z shank, is the stock TR6 lug (.811" dia.), so I'm think I might have the Tr lugs machined to .748" and use the washer from the Z lugs, which has a slight press fit. If you have the Z lugs, you will see what I mean. And the Tr6 lug has the same 1/2" length shank. Let me know how it works for you, or if you have some other thoughts. As you know these wheels where only on one year of Z. 1981 1/2 280 zx turbo.
Kind of a rare bird. Good luck
Joe

Yeahbaby, Almost forgot, you will have to trim a small amount off the tip of the top front and back upper control arms. I did have some rubbing at full clock. I sawsalled about 1/4 to 3/8" at an angle. Hope yours are in better shape than mine . I'm very pleased with how they look.

very very nice /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
