I purchased a 2010 leftover today, and I have never owned any two wheel vehicle with non-human power before. I need to decide if an extended warranty makes sense on this beyond the 1 year factory one.

Also, does separate "riders" insurance work as well as adding this to my auto insurance?

Any suggestions and advice to a novice are greatly appreciated.
 
NO "extended" ~anything~, Dave.

As for the "riders" stuff, talk with your insurance provider... If you have a good working relationship!
 
If the Vespa requires license tags, I'll bet your auto insurer will not accept it. Ask, it's worth a try. And don't skimp on the liability coverage just because it's a little scooter. Progressive Insurance is a good MC insurer, and cheap if your record is good. A web search will render lots of good quotes.

If you're new to motorcycles, please do yourself a favor and get a good full-face helmet (40% of MC crashes involve trauma to the lower facial area); good, armored gloves (hands = first part to hit pavement in a getoff), and some motorcycle-specific overpants with armor.

Good armor gear is a heckuva lot cheaper than skin grafts, and it can mean the difference between going to the emergency room in an ambulance, and getting up and walking away.

+2 on the full face helmet.....saved my life.....helmet didn't survive.
 
Unfortunately around here the scooter uniform seems to be shorts, T shirts and flip flops.
 
Well, the red Vespa is in the garage, and I plan to go to the Penndot center to get my permit tomorrow. Then it is off to get the helmet and register for the Motorcycle Safety course which does not start for over a month for now...
I will post photos soon, when I can get it outside.

I've been riding my '63 Lambretta since I bought it in '70 (I'm second owner).
I can tell you it's a blast to scoot around BUT the most dangerous part I find is others not seeing YOU. Keep scanning the road and watch out for others cause they may not see you!

Well, I did get the Vespa out on the road today for my first ever non human powered bike ride. I started to get the hang of it too. It was a blast, and it will get even better as I get more used to it. But I did watch the road gravel that is on the city streets right now, and I was very cautious about other vehicles.

Just a follow up...I have been enjoying the Vespa, and today was my first day riding with the Motorcycle Safety Program. I am stiff and tired, made some mistakes, but had a great time so far. I just have to remember that my rear brake lever on the Vespa is my clutch of the Suzuki GZ250 at the training. My old brain is slow, but it is coming.

Dave this is partially off topic. I just noticed that your signature line is almost the same as mine. Have I had it round the wrong way all these years?

Also, will you be naming the Vespa?

I have my signature phrase directly from the sign that hung in my Dad's office when he was a Jr. High School Principal. It is not a real Latin phrase, so I guess either version is correct, as long as you follow the principle...

I have not thought a name for the Vespa yet, but I hope I will by the end of the summer...

Interesting thought for a school principal. Was it aimed at the parents or the bratty kids?
