OK Citric acid.

Picked this up on another forum and bought some concrete etch at the store as it was on sale.

24 hours later - should have taken a "before" but, it looked like the not cleaned one.

Looks brand new!

It is probably obvious to all but me. Did you immerse the piece or just coat the contacts and let it it sit? Is neutrilizer needed or just tap water?

threw it in a tub and let it soak overnight - then just rinsed with water.
 
What was the strength of the acid solution?

some poured out of the bag and add water. seriously. probably 2-3 tablespoons and 2 or so cups of water.
