A quick silly Crypty question.

I'm making front suspension progress but hit a
snag, maybe.

I've got two bolts that require an 18" extension
and my full weight to rotate them. They are thru
bolts in the brake caliper mounting plate. They
are a b..... to rotate. I have then dripping in
rust buster.

After 20 or 30 rotations they have not backed out a
fraction of a nano-inch. I believe they are simply more
DPO Pedro metric bolts that his junkyard mechanic
pounded thru and put a plastic locnut on. Then they
rusted tight. (my theory anyway)

I can get a little seperation with my tie rod gizzmo.
I poured in more rust buster.

Does anyone know for sure? Are the TR components clean
bored and I can pound Pedro's bolts thru and out?

Without exception, every thru bolt I have encountered
to date has been metric. So I know they are incorrect.

Can I pound this critter out? Or something else must be
done to it?

thanks

Sounds like a case of rust. There should be no threads holding the bolt in. Might try removing the vertical link and setting it on the bench and go at it with a maul and drift it out.

Have you tried turning the bolt while adding a little more pressure on the tie rod separator with each turn? I can't remember for sure if the holes in the steering arm are threaded but I'm thinking one of them is.

Neither bolts #1 or #2 are threaded. They just go through the vertical link and the steering arm and are attached with nylocs on the back. Probably rusted inside the steering arm. I had one on my 4A (same suspension as yours) that I had to cut off and buy a new steering arm because it is permanently fused.

The bottom two bolts are threaded into the vertical link. One also has a nut on the back the holds on the brake dust shield but it is also threaded through the vertical link.

BTW, If DPO Pedro really messed up as much as you say, he indeed went through your car entirely, even if he didn't know what he was doing. If he had the benefit of this forum as you do, chances are, the results would have been more positive.
