Actually, I think he just got carried away. He has a CNC plasma cutter that he uses to cut out many of the components, so to add some extra "cuts" in the form of letters is no big deal. A few strokes with the mouse and he could eliminate them.
 
Wow. I'm not sure I've ever seen a TR engine turn out that fine. On the oil pan, is that ribbed or painted?

The valve cover and sump are both ribbed (for her pleasure).

Most of the cast aluminum stuff you see now, although usually expensive, does not seem to be very high quality. The valve cover arrived polished, but you could see pits in it. I attempted to polish the sump cover and soon ran into air pockets in the casting so I gave up and painted both with VHT black wrinkle paint. Before the wrinkle paint fully dried, I took a rag and some laquer thinner and removed the paint from the ribs. It worked out great, just like a Ferrari! Well, sort of.
