80's XJ6....sitting a while

Don't be too hasty on judging the value of these Jags. I have a friend in Canada who just sold his 1992 XJ12 VDP with 50,000 K on the clock for $38,500 USD. Thats about $44,000 Canadian Dollars. There is guy here in town with one who has an appraised value of $32,000 on his. (So he says)
The Series III Jags that lapped over into the XJ40 years are VERY rare Jags and their value has never dropped. One of the rare finds in the world of Jaguar.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind....The owner still hasn't noticed my note...but I'll ask the ticket booth attendent if she knows who owns it if I can remember tomorrow.

Haven't heard from the guy with the XJSC....will call him Friday if I haven't heard from him yet.

R6MGS: the link you posted as "****XJ-6 selling for $47k Canadian is really a 1988 XJ-12 (twelve cylinders), not a Six cylinders. My comments about the price were based on the fact that the car linked to is a V12, and so are Webserve's comments. If the Black car that's been sitting a while, the one with the oil leak, does not have a Van Den Plas or a V12 emblem, it probably is not. The 12 cylinder engine is not exclusive to the VDP, it came in XJ-12, XJ-12 VDP, and also XJ-12 Sovereign I think. The Sovereign is a more "corporate" or "executive" model, also used for Embassy duty. The VanDen Plas is not a lot different from the base XJ, just a number of luxury items are added, but certain interior colors are reserved for it. In other words, the XJ base model, the XJ VDP model, and the XJ Sovereign model, were all made with 6 or 12 cylinder engines. But Webserve added that the 12 cylinder models are fewer in numbers built, therefore they are rare.

Theres no V12 badge on the black car...as far as I can see...it is in a dark underground.....I am kinda hoping it isn't a V12 anyway, cuz if it isn't it might be a good car for my 17 year old son to drive.
I've been waiting to see the ticket lady that I know from when I had to buy my spot....she's very helpful and can probably get me in touch with the owner....I'll keep you posted

yeahh, the 12 cylinder cars are a maintenance nightmare, most everything is doubled. 12 sparkplugs, 4 catalytics, etc. They are reliable engines all considered, the issue is they are so complex it takes a very knowledgeable technician to figure them out when things go wrong. Across the street from me there's a XJ-S Coupe V12 that has sat for the last 5 years in the back of the house. Prior to that, the owner was selling it and I drove it. An incredibly quiet but powerful engine, it felt like an airplane taking off, you know, you get pulled back into the seat. But he was asking lots of money then, I passed on it and apparently so did everyone else, the car is just sitting there under the weather. Another one bites the dusta.

I had a lead on a very nice XJSC V12 for $5000 CDN....but the owner stopped responding to my emails when I tried to set up a date to look at it.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

never buy a car sight unseen. First Rule of car buying.

I wouldn't buy this car sight unseen.....even at $5000....I have bought many other cars sight unseen, only because they were such a good deal that even if they turned out to be a little worse than they were made out to be I'd still come out ahead...
