My steering column cowl has three screw holes on each side.

Front two are out easy, also the right side. Unfortunately, the left side screw hole near the dash is too close to the bottom ridge of the dashboard to insert a screw driver. Is there a trick to remove the last one? I could use a hammer, but alas, putting things back again may be a problem. I am trying to access the horn switch on the steering column.

Is it Phillips? How much room do you have? There is cheap little screwdriver with bent ends which fits tight places.

I assume it is, but, the bent philips head screwdrive I have does not seem to get in deep enough to lock with the screw head, if that makes sense.

Try lowering the column from the dash support. Just undoing the rear support may give you enough room to work. If not, you'll probably at least have to pull the 3 bolts at the firewall.
