76 gearbox oil

looking for proper way to check gearbox oil. dip stick is not between firewall and consoul. there is the rubber grommet, but there is no dip stick to be found any help.

No stick, the fill hole is the level device. Fill till oil comes out.
 
thanks that was a fast response. i was searching the web and found several items. i guess i need to replace the gasket between the motor and trany, that may help stop/cut down the leak. 20-50 weight it seems to be the way...thanks
 
Gasket between motor and trany, I don't think so. Gasket between rear engine and end plate, gasket on oil pump, seal on front of tranny.
