First: 12V at the coil? White lead from harness to coil. White/black wire to dizzy will have 12V (approx) when points are open. If there's 12V at that white/black wire with points closed, the points have built up corrosion and need replacing or just a bit of cleaning with an emery board.
I'd leave the carbs as-is. 90% of all induction problems are in the ignition circuit. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif
Been very busy lately, and still haven't gotten a chance to take the plugs out and clean them.
How long should it take to start the engine under cold weather? I'm going to assume that holding the starter / continuously cranking the engine over is not a good thing.
It's pretty unlikely that taking the plugs out and cleaning them will do anything for an engine that suddenly refused to start. Have you checked for spark yet?
My 70 BGT did that to me a couple days ago.
It was actually running, idling along then simply quit.
It would not start, I went through the motions, found I had fuel and found my points would spark just opening / closing them manually with the key on.
Then I found white scale on the surfaces of the contacts inside the cap. I scraped that off & the car started right up!
Now I have a new cap & rotor & wires etc...
