I am having to run new purple/white wires that go from the door switches to the transmission tunnel courtesy light (Thanks, PO). I ran a line from the passenger side switch to the driver side. There is also a wire coming from the the tunnel courtesy light up to the driver side. The problem is that I don't understand how they all connect on the driver side. Does the wire from the passenger side switch connect directly into the driver side switch and then out again to the wire coming from the transmission tunnel light? I have a wiring diagram, but it doesn't seem to cover this area. I don't understand how these lights work, and any help is greatly appreciated.

Kevin- There should be a purple wire there that provides the power and then a P/W to provide a pathway to the ground , and a ground.
The drivers side door switch should be (not sure on a 69 though) double tanged switch.
When the door is open it connects the ground so the light works.
So ...the P/W goes from that tang to the light.

So you are saying what I stated is correct then I think. The purple/white wire from the driver side must connect to a purple wire somewhere inside the harness coming from the transmission courtesy light. I already had to unwrap the harness from the courtesy light once (the PO cut the purple/white wire to the transmission tunnel light and I just rewrapped it) and I hope not to do it again. I have to find my switch and connectors, but how can I be sure I did it correctly without melting the wires again?

There should be a LONG P/W behind your seat right before it goes into the side panel in the back. That is the one that connects to the switch.
The connection is right by the light.
This should have a bullet on it. There should also be a Purple one there too.

Took me a while to find some electrical bits I needed in my spare parts boxes, but I finally have a courtesy light after many years. It always exciting to zero in on the last few electrical things and getting them working. Thanks, Don
