6 Cylinder Fuel Injection Conversion

Hello Randall,

my mistake, I didn't realise that the U.S cars had 1 3\4", I had assumed 1 1\2" as fitted to other cars with the same engine. Certainly, and as I said earlier in this thread that I thought that 2 x 1 3\4" carburettors (I said S.U.'s as I think they are better than the Strombergs although not by much)with head and exhaust work would do the job to P.I. power. ( I am aware of the low compression and mild cam as used in U.S cars, some I believe even had a different cylinder head with slightly altered inlet port pitch?
I agree with you on throat area which is why I don't believe the extra expense of the triple set up is worth doing, looks aside of course.

Glemon, if you dont want to go the PI route, I am always looking for spares for my system!. As far as availability of parts, there is not a good selection in north america, but Ebay.UK is a great place, and small stuff via airmail is not really much more ( and usually quicker ) than UPS.

As a footnote, I am just looking at the the HP graphs from Kastner. Stromberg carbs on a race engine would develop just a touch over 170 HP while the same engine running on PI would develop about 195 HP and with a much wider torque band.
The Lucas system was used quite sucessfully in F1, in fact i think every car that came in first or second in '68, '69 used the lucas PI system. It certainly is not cutting edge technology now, but its a pretty simple, and beyond a couple of quirks, reliable system. We tend to think of it as exotic over here, but it was fitted to TR5's, TR6's and to lots of Triumph Saloon cars over the years......

I didn't mean to scare you off, just make you aware of the eccentricities of the now very old tech manual metering fuel injection system. Go down that path if you want to, just be aware of potential problems.
We are getting a few US imports here as demand for the 6 goes up, and my Triumph mechanic is doing complete conversions from US spec to Lucas injection + mods, as spares for the Lucas system is plentiful here. Costs vary depending on condition of the original motor. Maybe ask mechanics with Triumph experience around your area if they can do a conversion?
Regards
Craig
