TR4/4A 4a Exhaust Manifold

This is the beginning of searching out information and resources for NEXT winters project:
I have known about and largely tried to ignore a hairline crack at the upper crotch of the "two meet the other two" point above the final flange point of my manifold.
As the exhaust heats up the crack seals up due to material expansion. So far so good but this won't last forever I know.
Do I have any chance at all of finding a replacement cast manifold that is intact?
I have a neighbor (welder) who has explained the possible repair process of heating the whole assembly up, welding and slow cooling as well as the risk of distortion and the probability or possibility of having a tough time refitting the repaired part.
Is my best option just to scrap the ideas of repair or replacement with an original cast manifold?

Since you don't need it immediately I would keep an eye on ebay, and check with local places that service LBCs to see if they have one.
My original was cracked too, and I purchased a header to replace it, though I have now gone back to a replacement original cast manifold. They must be rather subject to cracking, so may be hard to find.
Simon.

These things are rare and should be saved if possible.I would suggest getting it done before it gets too much worse, since it will certianly NOT get any better. As for warpage, the flange could easily be milled straight after its welded and should be, so no un-necessary stresses are on the lady.

Simon, Greatest fear: searching out "The Holy Grail" Finding and getting a worse one ! Limited number of LBC's here in Canuckia.
MDCanaday (is that like Canada-eh ?) if so your an honorary Canadian! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/canpatriot.GIF Agreed, would not trash the old one just fearful of what might happen if the repair craps out.
Would prefer to keep this original if possible
