3.54 Ring and Pinion

I agree with the 3.54 gears. I fitted a set back March 2013 to a BJ8 for a customer. They work very well, makes a big difference, he just came bake from Conclave, "SC to Canada and back" no complaints. Soon after I bought a set for my 100-4. Mind you,, they are still on the bench in the box !

My 64 BJ8 (HBJ828207) came with no overdrive and the 3.54 rear axle. It is in several million pieces now getting restored. The car was originally an export car to West Germany. I suspect a GI bought it and shipped it to the US. I was not able to trace the history, but the Heritage certificate does say no overdrive and delivered to Dusseldorf. I am replacing with the original gear box with an overdrive unit and also am installing the correct 3.9 rear end. I want the overdrive trans as I had an new 67 Healey when young and loved the OD. I plan on keeping the non OD gearbox and rear end in case a future owner might want to go original.

Why not use the 3:54 rear axle with the overdrive trans? That is what I would do and most people here also. It will cruise much easier on the highway.

Excuse me sir, but replacing the 3.54 with a 3.9 is a terrible idea! Your car has plenty of torque and will be happier with the 3.54 and overdrive.
