24 Hours LeMans

Did I mention I HATE digital TV when you get lousy reception?!! :madder: :wall: :wall:

Live stream coverage is the way to go!!! MUCH more pleasant to watch and nice coverage to boot!!

sat down with the coffe turned it on, watched for aminute and then,
" we'll be back in 5 hours?"

:wall:

I guess the live stream was only from noon to 1:30  , as I just lost coverage too!! Oh well, good while it lasted... will have to tune in again at 4:30! :smirk:

No, still working here at 2:15 EST.

It's dropped off a few times and I've had to go out of the webpage and re-start (and re-buffer)

OK, the streaming is over (at 4 EST and not 4:30).

It'll be back at 10 EST.

Meanwhile go here:

https://www.radiolemans.com/

...and click listen live.

And yeah, you're right. Corvettes have done better in recent years. As I write this, they're 1,2 and 3 in class (another Corvette crashed hard around 3:50).

Aston is 5 and 6 as I write this.

Peugeot=#1
Audi=#2
Peugeot=#3

It's been a great race (so far) with lots of twists and turns in the plot.

That's what happened!! I re-buffered (a couple of times!) and it did come back! Back to watching the Speed coverage, thankfully without the break-up in reception that I was getting this morning!!

Here's a source of the latest info:

https://www.lemans.org/24heuresdumans/pages/chronos_gb.html

Don't forget to hit "Refresh" if you look at this more than once.

I'm writing this at 5:00 AM EST.

As I write, Peugeot is #1 and #2 with Audi #3.

Big New! The Aston-Lola is fourth, but five laps behind the Audi. Still, the Audis have been unreliable, so there's still a chance to see the Aston on the podium. And, at the present rate, it'll be the first gas-powered car to finish.

I left it on all night. Managed to wake up here and there to hear bits and pieces. This is the first year I've seen any of it for quite awhile, work got put off until Monday, I'm enjoying it

I have done the same Scott!! Stayed up ridiculously past my bed time, and was up early! They are starting to show some of the strain at this point in all classes!!

It's gettin' ugly.

I do like the Audi ad in the streets in Maranello. :jester:

EDIT: And wot's this "Pinks" crap?!?!

Used to joke back-when that NASCAR should race P/U trucks. Had a set of "rules" too... A co-driver with a shotgun, 12 rounds. Dog chained in the bed, case of Bud in the cockpit.

Shooting an opponent's dog or driver would deduct points, opponents tires are okay. All beer to be consumed and points deducted for any 'empties' missing from the bed after the race. Dog must be in good condition...

We thought it would make NASCAR 'viewable'. :smirk:

Now they DO race the awful things. We were ahead of our time.

Well, it ended not quite as I had anticipated, but a great race nonetheless!! Kinda neat seeing Puegot line up ala Ford for the finish photo op! Neat also that the last time they won was with a Brabham at the wheel and this time again!! Now to get some much-neglected yard-work done and take a nap! :tired: I think I can skip that Michigan race this afternoon after staying up and watching some "real" racing!!

Except for a few select shows and the obvious race broadcasts, "Speed TV" has become the WWF WWE of the automotive world.

They were far, far, far better as Speedvision when they carried a larger variety of non low-IQ high-macho garbage.

...and that's all I'm gonna say about that.

Caught most of the race down at a friends house. A very good race -- they really don't slack off at all any more, 24 hours at full chat.

Big thumbs up for the Lola/Aston -- 4th place (highest placing gasoline engine) is a serious accomplishment.

They kept talking about that Aston's nice sound. Did they ever give an example?

There were a few moments (precious few though!)when it was caught at full chat! It did sound SWEET! :driving:
By far the more enjoyable coverage was provided by the live-stream broadcast on speed.com with color commentary by Le Mans Radio :cooler: than what was on Speed TV!

Doc., that Audi commercial caught my eye too!! Cute!

OK, I was away all yesteday (at my Mom's 80th B-day).
I'm happy to see Peugeot win this time. Audi's a great team but it's more fun to see them have some real competition. And great to see homeboy Bourdais on podium. He was born at LeMans and grew up there.

Like Mike the 1 - 2 Peugeot finish reminded of Ford's famous "steamroller" finish (although that *did* create a problem for Ford).
Corvettes held up and finished 1 -2 in GT1 with the Aston DBR9 a distant 3rd.

Ginetta was 21st OA.

Vanina Ickx and her teamates in the Creation-Judd finished 24th. A decent result and that would make her the highest placing gal in the event. Watch her over the next few years. Her dad is her coach and he was probably the best LeMans driver ever.

Dempsey finished 30th OA and 9th in class in Ferrari. A decent result of a first-timer and he raised a ton of money for a children's charity in the process. I read part of ~His Blog~ yesterday.....he seems like a decent fellow judging by his writing and not at all full of himself.

I am still not sure why they "parade" the last lap. I guess it's part of the old tradition.......a civilized way to end this grand event.

~Interesting News~ related to LeMans.

The ACO and others are courting disgruntled F1 teams to switch to endurance racing (such as LeMans).

I know there are some F1 fans here, but I ain't one of them.
I've been to F1 races and one of my best friends was a member of Castrol F1 support group for many years.
Still, I much prefer sports cars and especially endurance racers.

I'd love to see this happen.

By the way, I'm not sure if anyone noticed that the ~ACO~ pulled in the leading Peugeot for an added, unscheduled stop because the rear body work was starting to disintegrate. They called in the other top Peugeot too. They could have easily let this go until the regular pits stops. The leader lost a lot of time working on the fix (but they did other repairs at the same time). This is one of those "grey areas" that the ACO could have overlooked but they didn't.
The ACO also allowed Audi to retain the "brake cooling ducts" despite a protest by Peugeot. They sure looked like aero-devices to me (and a lot of other folks).
There's always been this undercurrent that the locals are favoured by the official ACO governing body. I've never believed that and have always chaulked it up to sour grapes. But especially this year, with such a close race and a French car leading, it's pretty obvious that the local guys didn't get any special treatment. They won fair and square.

Been there, In the pits. The locals do show favoritism.....

Both in France and in Italy.... Remember Colin's problems with the three lug wheels? A long time ago, but something related to this topic.
