210 tranny starter cover

When I pulled the engine and tranny, I noticed that the starter bendix is completely exposed on the back-side of the bell-housing. Anyone know where I can get a cover? It looks like it will have to be custom made. I understand on the original Brit transmission, there is a small cover to hide the Bendix drive sticking out there. It can be modified to fit. Anyone have one lying around?

I didn't like having the starter exposed on my 5-speed so I now have a fabricated cover over it. I have a photo of the cover on the third page of my webshots photos. I drilled and tapped three 10-32 holes in the tranny cover to hold it in place. When I installed it I sealed the joint with RTV since I wanted it to be waterproof. I haven't gotten around to getting a picture with in place. I doubt that there is a commercially available cover. HTH

If your setting up a new 210 5sp I believe it is possible to have a engine plate made up and your flywheel turned to fit a datsun ring gear so that you can use a datsun starter and stock transmission housing. That seems to be a lot neater solution than what is common. Ask Paul A at morris service about this. Seems I heard it somewhere.

Actually Kurt that was my car you are talking about- I put a Datsun ringgear on my Spridget flywheel and use a Datsun starter, then no hole in the tranny is required.

I used a gear drive starter on my A-series with 210 gearbox and didn't have to cut a hole in the bellhousing. The starter would be a nice upgrade in it's own right.

Ditto! Same setup cant be beat.

I had forgotten you had that setup on your car Bill. Seems like a good way to go. Hope to see you and Bill L for Midget 50. I was wondering if gear reduction requires different rear plate and ring gear change?

Sorry to confuse you, Bill! I forgot the quote....

Nelson, do you have the design specs on this? I'd love to fabricate one without having to re-invent the wheel! BTW, awesome job on your LBC, buddy!
