2008 Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival - Sept. 5-7

Anybody else on here going to the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival in September, seeing that Triumph is this year's featured marque?

I've got Baldrick signed up for their Tour de Marque event on Friday, September 5th.

I'm crossing my fingers that he makes it up there and back without a problem, but the Tour just seems too good to pass up, so I'm taking a chance. It's the closest little Baldrick will ever get to racing. :driving:

Anybody else?

Re: 2008 Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival

When is it? Well, I know September but what are the dates?

Thanks, Tinkerman

Re: 2008 Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival

I'm going.

I will be Crew Chief on Steven Groh's Spitfire. He will let me off on Friday to do the Tour de Marque in The Blue TR3.

I will go up with some other Mason-Dixon TRAers. Some will do the Tour de Marque, too.

Sounds like great fun! Can't wait to go!

Triumph racers will have their own spot in the Paddock. Look for us. Green roundtail with a red stripe.

Green with a red stripe... Shouldn't be too hard to spot!

Maybe.
Depends on how well Christine is running.

Well, that makes it even easier to spot.

Looking forward to putting some faces to screen names in September.

Re: 2008 Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival

Living 15 miles from the track, you bet I'll be there!
Unfortunatly my TR won't be in any shape to be there with me, but I'll still have fun.
Everyone make sure to come in thursday night to be there friday for the festival downtown. That's where all the magic happens! and going up to the track is the icing on the cake!
We should get something organized to have an "official BCF" presence. That wold be great!
Maybe in the future there could even be a BCF rally during the event. (most of the vinyards sponsor one now)
Last year we spotted Dennis Guage fom "My Classic Car" at the reenactment race. could you imagine the BCF making it on a national show?!

Banjo, I may have a passenger seat available on the Tour de Marque Friday.

May I buy you a beverage?

My wife and I are thinking strongly about it, especially since her side of the family is just north of Syracuse. Won't attempt to drive the TR4 up there though if we do, as much as I'd like to have some wheels there.

You may just have yourself a deal.
Lots can happen between now and then, we'll have to see. But a seat in the Triumph "tour-de-Marque" would be a treat.
I could have been in it last year with the Bimmer, but I really diden't think a 91 was a "vintage" car.
Instead I had to settel for navigating in my Bosses Superformance Cobra

Re: 2008 Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival

I have to admit...as a racer, I look at this through a different lens.

At some point, it might be fun to run this event, just because of all the pagentry that the SVRA has built into it.

But, for us amateur racers, the SVRA entry fee is a stiff $495.
Also, the amount of actual track time is pretty slim for the "lesser" cars (like mine).
The SVRA Lime Rock Vintage event is also quite costly (and again, with modest track time).

The VRG vintage event at The Glen in October is almost half that entry fee and the track sessions are longer.
The VARAC and VDCA events are cheaper and with more track time too.

Still, if I had money to burn, it would be fun to spend it at the WG and LR SVRA events.
Maybe I'll go buy a lottery ticket!

Hey, if you *do* go, don't forget to go to the Seneca Lodge!

Re: 2008 Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival

This is the first year I have not been scheduled to be deployed/in an Army school/some where I really do not want to be, in the past 10 years, I can not wait to be there. The only debate I have is do I drive the 8 and bring my daughter who would love it or bring the Hummer and the girlfriend (and kids) who would be miserable but pretend to have fun but be clock watching the entire time.

Re: 2008 Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival

The hotel room has been booked.
I'll be taking the TR6...hopefully. Looking forward to 6 hours of back road driving.
Also going to MidOhio in June. Unfortunately, FOT doesn't go there anymore.

Re: 2008 Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival

I plan on going to Mid Ohio too. And the Vintage Grand Prix in PGH

Re: 2008 Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival

I will be in Pittsburgh on Saturday for British Car Day. Probably helping park cars. My cooler will be full at both events. You are welcome to help me empty it.

My wife and I and the yellow 3 will be there. All registered and looking forward to it. Part of the Two Sheds contingent....hmmmmmm wonder if I can get one of those beverages from Dr. Herrera

Banjo will have to work for his beverage. He will have to video the Tour, but he has to aim the camera at the track, not at guardrails!

But Dale the truck will hold plenty of coolers, and there's other work to be done for a Gent like you.

The PGH GP is a great event. I hope to be able to take the 8 this year. last year we had planned on it but the day before I did a shake down run in the 8 and one of my cooling fans stopped working. in the stop and go traffic in PGH it would have been doom for the 8. Took the hummer instead.
