Spitfire $200 Project spitty on craigs list in oregon

Too bad... it was nice to dream of a hardtop for a little while.

I posted this in another thread, but here it is again in case you missed it. Definitely not the deal the other Spit was but maybe for the hardtop and spare engine it'd be worth the asking price and it's not too far from the first one:

Rusty Spit

I thought the rust on that one looked pretty scary but the block alone would be worth 200 add the hardtop and it looks pretty good. Looks like a Weber carb on it too.

Here are the pics I got from the seller. As you can see, it's a 79 not a 78. He has the trunk rack.

John, I saw that thread, but that rust looked really scary. The downdraft Weber looked interesting, especially with "110 hp." Really, Seattle is just too far away. Oregon still has quite a few old British sports cars hiding away in back yards and barns.

What I could really use is a hardtop (well, a new soft top too), a decklid (mine has a big rust hole through the top from the previous owner storing it under a pine tree for years, where soggy pine needles focused the water right into a hole), and trunk trim. Does anyone have _true_ parts cars with those sorts of parts I can buy? Wrecking yards just don't have British cars anymore.

Oh, I need to replace or patch my floor too, but that is a totally different kind of job. I've got to brush up on my welding skills for that one.

Still, it was nice to dream about a hardtop.... <sigh>

Scott,
You might try British Auto Works in North Plains. They have a lot of used parts.

yeah, I have been eying that one in Whidbey Island. If I only had room to mess around and strip it. And it was not so nasty out right now. Between the snow, rain and cold, dragging a dead spit that does not roll out of a mud hole just does not sound appealing.

I may still call the guy.

Thanks, Eejay. I'll give them a call. It's a bit of a drive, but I've got family up in the Portland area, so I can always drop by when I'm otherwise in the area.
