Jack, you were lucky! Sounds like Keoke and I grew up in similar neighborhoods!

---Yep never seen no free Quarters

Hmmmm, I did the yard and the garden for that quarter year around plus some other stuff, feed and water chickens, hogs, and cows.

But was not a disadvantaged household either. Dad was a contractor.

OK Jack, since you worked for that quarter. Dar100 and I am welcoming you into the club.---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Socket arrived and I gave it a go today. I got only 1/4 inch rotation. But thats OK. I feel more secure now. Randy, I hope yours arrived too. You can get double what you paid on Ebay.

Nope, still no socket; no returned phone calls either. Pretty easy to figure out his rank in my vendor rating /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pukeface.gif

Thanks for the Ebay tip, though Ray expressed interest in it, if it ever arrives /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Remember it is Christmas and the post is all screwed up.

Went to post office for christmas stamps yesterday and they told me they had been mailed to them a week ago, geesh. I told em to use FedExp when it really had to get there.

Wot!! you call that Poverty? Who in the world could afford a lawn mower wid a motor on it? Much less afford the 10 Cent/Gal gasoline to run it and had a house wid a lawn. The only way to get a bicycle was to "Borrow"one. Even getting in to the movie on Saturday which only cost 10 Cents required sneaking in cuz you didn't own a Dime!Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

[/ QUOTE ] well keoke the bike came from the dump, and i bought that little motor from a "budy" fred for $1.50 with some of the money id made for washing cars, and you know that was big bucks back then,i was sitting on my mini bike in front of my house when mr. mccdonald drove up and began speaking to my father, he produced a card with a serial number on it seems my "budy" fred was the one who "borrowed" that motor ,no matter how i explained how id gotten it neither of them believed i wasnt the one that had stolen it, after having the fecal matter beat out of me my old man made me return and rebuild that lawn mower for mr. mccdonald, my "budy" fred usually walked past my house to get home from school so i waited for him one afternoon got him in a head lock and made him admit to my old man and mr. mccdonald that he was the thief, fast fwd 3 years, im now 15 years old,i get off the bus going home from school, "hi mr. mccdonald whats that cool looking red car in your yard"-"thats an austin healey ya like it?"-"ya alot"-"take it its yours" tosses me the keys, i pushed it home 5 blocks by myself, hed gotten the healey from a guy that wouldnt pay his boat yard fees via a mech.lien, mr. mccdonald musta really felt bad about the beating i took from my old man or he just didnt know how to tune su's. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Not sure Mr. McDonald was a nice guy giving you that or not. Might saved a lot of money without the little cars in your life.

[/ QUOTE ] turns out he was a very good guy, if it wasnt for him i would have opened a lawn mower repair shop and never had a healey. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Haha, yep you could see it that way.

7777, That did it! here Dar100, Jack and myself workin to get Dimes an a Quarter. But you got $1.50 in U pocket which you used to buy a lawnmower motor from U buddy Fred, knowin fully well he done borrowed it from some place cuz even back then lawn mower motors cost more en $1.50 . En Further, livin in a area where folks had cars no matter how they got them and then they so affluent they give em away to childrens. U know what my Pa would still be beating my Arse!---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cowboy.gif

British Tool Company socket (finally) arrived today.

Ray, if you want it, now's the time to step up or it's going on Ebay.

keoke, my old man is still kickin at 79 y.o. one of the few things he can still remember is the day i pushed that healey home id be glad to give you his phone # so he can varify. and mr.m. owned a boat yard and did very well,he was kinda the rich guy in the hood, heck just about everyone owned thier own little house they were converted summer bungalows costing between 4 and 9 thousand dollars, the one my pops bought was just a shell the kids that lived around it were actually using it as thier "haunted house" to play in, the only reason pops was able to afford that bungalow was cuz he bet an exacta (horse race) and won,ya lurned carpentry, plumbing, elect, roofing etc real fast, most of them had small yards just big enough to keep perhaps a small boat 15' long and could sqeeze in a healey if ya did it right, most of these little houses had patches of grass around them so some people owned lawn mowers just not shinny new ones in fact the old man never did buy one i did ours with a push job that my grand pop gave us.our little house was located not more the 50-60 yards from the beach you could hear the waves breaking and smell the salt water, while all the other kids would walk past our place in thier swimming trunks with thier towels on thier way to the beach my brother and i had to continually work on my fathers "project" this went on for years thats perhaps why just before my brother reached 18 he had our mom sign some papers and went into the marines he knew even that would be an easier gig, and me well i just went. ill bet that property is worth crazy money today i know that healey is. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

7777, You might as well give up while U ahead. Now U tellin me U folks had enough money to bet on horses.Didn't nobody have no money to be bettin on nothin.Futher, there weren't a race track any where around. Only time there be any horse racin was during the Rodeos on the 4TH of July. Then the Indians would bring thier Appaloosas and take all the trophies back to the tribe. Even if you had enough to bet you couldn't win enough to buy a new tie.--Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

[/ QUOTE ] keoke, indians? its not that my pops didnt have a good job he was a stationary fireman for n.y.c. sanitation dept, the reason for my youthfull poverty was that he was a betting man and liked to chase strang tail, as a result he never hired one tradesman to do any of the work on the house, i think ive had enough childhood reminiscence for now else i go for therapy and shock treatments /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif indians? horses? you godda be at least 110 years old! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif 7777 ;

Publish that first story of yours "Red Healey" on the Forum it's a good one. No you have your history skewed, it was 110 years before the US Government allowed the Appaloosa to be bred again Cuz they couldn't beat em either!---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
