Spitfire 1965 Spitfire Mk2 - Colorado

The over riders have a bracket across the back with a nut welded to it. A simple bolt throught the bumper will mount it.

Guess I need to check out your photos when I get home, Tom. I don't think my paint is that great either.

Yep. Somebody drilled holes through my overriders and put bolts through that way. The overriders I have, can't be repaired to attach in the correct way.

If you guys know of a cheap place to get my old bumper done, let me know. It isn't in very bad shape. Tom may want to check it out. It's in all of my current pics on the site.

I see the overrides come up from time to time on ebay for about $40-75 each. You could always try Teamtriumph.com they may have a good set. I just ordered something from him today and he also has the door catches that go on the B pillar really cheap. (the silver triangle piece)

It is funny but my red spit was really green, jrc yours looks like it was yellow and ksis it looks like yours was always red. I would just like to get a car that isn't red someday.

I haven't found a speck of anything but red on mine... other than rust.

Where do you see the yellow?

I've always liked green. But, I just couldn't pass this car up.

Just the oposite, Mine was yellow. I may be leaving the world of red and breaking up the three amigos and going back to the yellow.

Yes that is it. When I go to the site for JRC I also find the pictures for KSIS. Then the site crashes my system and I am not sure what I was looking at.

But we all have red now. The real question is who has more parts from different versions of the car.

My 63 mk1 is the frame, bonnet and at one time engine.
It has a mk2 tub
mk1 logo on trunk, spitfire4
mk1 radiator
mk3 engine
mk4 seats and seat belts
mk1 top
us style universal wire harness

And god only knows what else is from the melting pot.

I haven't detected any parts from other versions yet. Everything seems old, siezed up and/or crappy!

I do have upgrades installed though.

OK... Now I need some front overriders. If anyone knows where I can get a decent used set, let me know. VB wants $200 per, and Rimmer Bros can't find 1/2 of the pair.

Any old Spitfire owners ever fit a retractable convertible setup onto a MkII? I'd like to fashion up something that folds down.

It wouldn't be all that difficult with enough parts from a Mk3 Spitfire, but I almost prefer the early top that removes and stows away completely (and cleverly, I might add)! Also, with some practice, it doesn't really take all that long to erect the Mk2 top, and a good Mk2 top -- fitted well -- is almost as snug as the later tops.

Both overriders had been drilled through, were dented and had very twisted mounting tabs on the back. They had to be cut, holes welded shut, new brackets and mounting threads welded to the backs then chromed. That was $150 each (still cheaper than VB w/ postage). I am quite sure that repairing the original overriders ensures a better quality of workmanship. I got mounting hardware from Ace.

The bent up bumper is posted on here somewhere (or Picasa). I guys at the Sportscar Craftsmen shop straightened that out, then sent it to be chromed. That was $225 (very cheap compared to any alternatives).

doesn't Canley's sell bumpers?
moot point, now that you had yours fixed

I think I saw a picture of your car in an old issue of "Spifire/GT6", when it belonged to p.o.
