MGA 1959 MGA Coupe

Re: 1959 MGA Coupe - UPDATE

My rule of thumb is that something built as a collector's item...isn't one.

Re: 1959 MGA Coupe - UPDATE

Like the Franklin mint stuff. If there's over 500 pcs, it's not collectable.

Re: 1959 MGA Coupe - UPDATE

So, (insert dumb question) how does he justify that starting price?

Re: 1959 MGA Coupe - UPDATE

Tony, my guess would be that that's the price those models by FM have been trading for recently.

If you're just looking for a nice 1:18th model of a TC you might want to try the Road Signature piece by Yat Ming. Go to Ebay and do a search on 1947 mg tc (All Categories) and you'll get a half dozen or more hits. The model is offered in red, BRG, and black and they run $40-$50 usually. I picked up one a couple years ago for $33. They are nice quality and look good on the shelf.

I've got a BRG one! Me mum bought it in Connecticut and it rode home in my GT.

I've also got a GMP Moulin '70 Plymouth Rouge Road Runner convertible. They made only 199. There was a countdown on their homepage to when they'd be available for sale, and they sold out in 49 minutes!

Re: 1959 MGA Coupe - UPDATE

Nice you found a non-rusty coupe. As you know, I am a long time coupe owner and I think they are the best of the MGAs for actual use.

I assume you'll be looking for front discs for it - I recommend it. A really nice way to update it is to use a 3 main MGB engine (bolts right in).

Plan on taking time over the innards of the doors - window winders etc., and make sure everything is just right as worn bits can cause problems not easy to repair - it is also a swine to get large hands in there....

Hope you got the chrome trim for front and rear windows - the repro stuff sucks.

Re: 1959 MGA Coupe - UPDATE

Right now, my plan is to get it in the garage (spent y'day moving cars around to make room for it - 18 cars in the garage when it gets here! Plus 3 German cars in the carport!) where it'll probably sit for a spell while I gather up some of the unobtainables...after I finish a couple of ongoing projects, I'll turn to it & my '59 MGA roadster...do 'em both at the same time...bodies off frame...paint 'em both OEW w/red interior.

When I get to 'em, I'll look at mods..my roadster has wires, the coupe has steel wheels...am trying to decide if I want to change steels to wires.

Re: 1959 MGA Coupe - UPDATE

I look forward to seeing pics, Tony!

Holy cow Tony...I didn't know this yard existed and I only live a few miles from there. I went down today and Greg was loading your coupe into his trailer. He mentioned he found the striker plates as well. I took a look at a couple of the cars there and there is some neat stuff. There are apparently 2 other storage areas as well.
