MGA 1959 MGA Coupe

6:38 pm. I wonder what the word is?

Heh, no telling but I bet Tony gets a good price.

Re: 1959 MGA Coupe - UPDATE

So, its 8:36pm & I'm sitting in the Phoenix airport waiting for the red-eye flight home...& had a great Mexican dinner at a local favorite restaurant.

Now to the car:

Absolutely no rust!

Couldn't find any body filler....somebody sprayed some type of white paint over all the body imperfections then put the windows back in - with NEW rubber!

We went over it top to bottom out in the dusty Arizona desert....he tossed in a perfect hood, trunk lid & front valance & is going to see if he has a better RF fender (though its not as bad in person as it is in the photos).

Looks like somebody ran out of interest or money....frame is straight & clean...appears to have recent high gloss black paint on it & I couldn't find any rust on the frame either...he told me the guy he got it from in California had just sprayed the body to protect it - & now that I've seen it in person, I can believe that...I ran a magnet over every inch of that body & frame - nothing but metal!....the trunk is full with things like a complete extra set of shocks, extra "B" posts & boxes & boxes of parts in the trunk & car itself.

We made a list of all the things I want to make sure are with the car....did I say that all the glass is in excellent condition...worst pieces I found were the door handles (I just bought a pair off ebay) & the oval 1500 emblems on the front sides of the tub...& he's going to make sure everything I put on my list is there (he said he wasn't even going to go through the boxes, if I put it on my list he's gonna put it in the car!).

So, he's delivering it to me on Monday!

Oh, I took photos of all his cars - they're all for sale...from his twin cam MGA to his TD's, MGB's, TR4's, TR6, SAAB Sonnets...will post them when I get home.

Re: 1959 MGA Coupe - UPDATE

Tony, I'm very glad to hear that you finally found your MGA coupe! I know you've been looking for one for a while.

Saab Sonnets eh? My girlfriend's been looking for a carrot (orange Sonnet IV)of her very own...hmm...

Re: 1959 MGA Coupe - UPDATE

Great news!

Re: 1959 MGA Coupe - UPDATE

Congratulations, Tony!!!

An excellent report on what sounds to be an excellent find.

Now see there...don't you feel better having settled in your mind that this is THE car for you, before doing the deal?

When you look at the cost in time and $$$ to go look at the car and come back with peace of mind, it is but a small amount in comparison to the time and $$$ that will lovingly be invested in the vehicle, and a pittance when compared to the value of pride of ownership.

GOOD JOB!

Ray

Fantastic news, Tony. I'm sure you're glad you made it out to look it over in person. That's going to be a fun one, for sure.

Re: 1959 MGA Coupe - UPDATE

Not gonna add anything else to my personal collection for a while - got too many projects......when I do, I'm gonna look for a Y-Type Saloon, a 1966 Midget or a TC...not in any particular order.

Yeah, Tony. It might be this weekend or so, but I'll work on adding your new car to your sig pic.

Congrats on the coupe. great looking cars. better looking than the roadster IMO.

You know, it does look better than the roadster...but underneath they're about the same (I hope)...I'm gonna finish Jerri's GT this summer then the '68 BRG MGC, then my '63 Black MGB that I'm converting the RHD...then, I'm gonna do a frame off on both MGA's at the same time...building 2 identical cars (but the roadster is wire wheels & the coupe has steel wheels...hmmmm).

Re: 1959 MGA Coupe - UPDATE

Are those things really worth that much?
