TR2/3/3A 1958 TR 3 , crankshaft nut for hand starting

I would like to check the engine in my 1958 TR 3 to determine if it will still be able to turn over after sitting 20+ years. My intention is to remove the spark plugs , add a little oil (?) to the cylinders and try to turn the crankshaft manually. I do not have a hand crank, but was hoping to use a socket(size ?) , extension and breaker bar to determine if it is still” free”. Will a socket fit on the end of the starter nut? If so, what size?
thanks for your help.

I don’t remember the size, but it was easy to get a socket or wrench on the crank bolt from under the front. I might have used a large offset box end wrench. With the apron on it’s not worth figuring out if you can do it from the top. Whenever I set the timing pointer to top dead center exactly with chain slack taken out, I figure I’ve done my burpees for the day.

Which might be why I remember using a large box end. My last time in that neck of the woods, the radiator and apron were off.

Thank you for your responses. All good advice .
I hope to get up the barn this weekend and put that advice into play. Thanks again, M.V
