1955 BN1 dash

Hi, I've got a 55 BN1 with a solid black dash. The car is original, black with red interior. Can someone tell me what determined if the car had a two tone dash or not. The car is under restoration and the two tone dash seems more attractive.
Thank you, Tyrone

Hey Tyrone,
Per Anderson/Moment's book, on a black car the dash would have been painted body color with raised instrument panel a non reflective silver. They do note that a few owners of original unrestored cars believe the instrument panel was body color. If yours is original and never been painted, maybe you have one of the ones with a solid color dash. From a restoration point of view, I would go with the two tone since that was the usual case. Like you, I think the two tone looks far better.
Regards,
Mike

FWIW, my dad carefully took the dash on our 100M down to bare metal and found no evidence of any silver paint (white/black car). It also seems we had one of the cars that had parts of the chassis--inc. the engine bay--painted black.
