Sure it is. Just nobody wants it!

I'm sure he ended it early to avoid the eBay fees.

or to avoid having people report him for misrepreseting what he's selling... maybe?

I think I'm missing a real opportunity here....

I should compile a book: "E-bay's Best & Worst" with examples of these scams and some of the other amusing oddities that regualrly turn up....

Think anyone would buy it?

It'd probably cost less than $114,000..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I emailed him asking just what made this car so special that it should command such a high price. All I got back was something about misuse of the ebay message forwarding system. Not sure what that meant...lol I have my doubts as to whether the car was ever in his possession.

Gotta love some of the eBay yutzes. I too was tempted to e-mail Mr. ReallyExpensiveMGA. Maybe if he sent enough of these "Misuse of eBay mailing" messages then eBay might start to suspect the seller. Oh well, we'll just continue to be amused by the folks who greatly exaggerate the value and find all the flaws. I just can't imagine why nobody bid on it (yeah, right), but it would be mighty funny if someone from Nigeria offered to overpay by a certain amount and he fell for it. Then who is scamming who?

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif dang I was hoping to spend 100 grand on a book ... *sigh*

I sent two emails to eBay commenting about the auction and how it is either a fraud or at least misinformation.

Wonder if they told him to end it?

It will be interesting to see if this MGA appears again in the future. Or maybe the seller was just fishing to see what would happen.

Not really that familiar with the details of MGA's. What years and or models had the tail lights sideways? Same question for the grill that is more upright or recessed if you will with a "shelf" at the bottom.
Bruce

Boy! Just when I planned to list my very early, extremely rare, frame-off restored, '56 MGA 1500 roadster on eBay for $125,000, you guys come along and blow up my whole scam . . uh, plan. Why aren't you MG guys as gullible as the Beanie Baby buyers who made eBay into the great auction that it is today? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

The last of the MGAs, the 1962 Mark II, had the sideways tail lamps mounted below the trunk lid. They were the last of three tail lamp types. Early 1500 cars (55-58) had a single tail lamp on the fender and later cars (59-61) had a seperate tail lamp and turn signal, still mounted on a plinth on the fender.

Is it only the 1962 MkII that has that recessed grill?

Also reading a bit more about MGA's on eBay and noticed someone selling a "one owner" car although he is not the original owner. Doesn't that make it a 2 owner car????/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

Thanks
Bruce

Yes, the MkII also had the recessed grille.
I would agree on the 2 owner thing too. Ebay is an endless source of entertainment.

Almost as fun sometimes as a good funny book. People do say the strangest things on eBay.

Also seems all cars were made in and are still in California.

heh... some of my favotire listing describe items as "USED NOS!". Used New Old Stock.... I just can't do anything but snicker when I see those listings.

All Mark II cars, not just the 1962 / Deluxe models had recessed grills. The more common, and in my opinion nicer grills were offered on the Mark I 1500 cars until 1958.

yea...a twin-cam with 13,000 miles on it...hmmmmmmmm /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
