MGA "1943" MGA

You are all jealous because your cars never made it to the European Grand Prix! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

Guinn

No we're just jelous that our cars at best will only go for 10 or 20% of his asking price (not that he'll get it either)

*buuurrrrp* oh, sorry, excuse me! must be that hundred grand I ate for lunch giving me indigestion....

I get the feeling that some of the details are a bit wrong ... Raced in a Grand Prix? It looks way too perfect to have ever been in a real race (no holes, roll bar, etc.). Of course, it could have been repaired ... but still ...

Although, at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, there was a Jag restorer who was talking about using genuine cloth wiring harnesses and selling E types for $150,000. It was pretty clear that he was a true concours fanatic, but I think he was also out of his mind ... There's a mostly complete jag I could have my hands on (no bonnet, some crash damage) for less than $5000. Of course it needs a paint job, but it should fire right up ... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Don't need another project!

There's no mistake. This guy is full of it. Why on earth would someone ship a LHD USA car back to England to race it in a grand prix and then ship it back to the USA and return it to road use? He doesn't even know who drove it, what the name of the race was or what position the car came in at.

Anyone have any idea what this means?

The history of the car is very interesting... In 1956 MG released only 500 to the USA as a test since the design was dramatically different than previous MG Models. All 500 sold quickly and the style quickly was followed by other sport car companies.

Actually I think I understand him to be saying that MG made only 500 of the "A" just to see if they would sell? I DOUBT IT!! But I don't understand who else quickly followed. Austin Healey already looked like this sort of. Triumph never did.

I think the guy is intimating that this is the TYPE of car that raced in the Grand Prix and this is the TYPE of car Elvis and whatever her name was, drove/rode in. Not specifically THIS car. Which devalues it completely in my eyes. I'd have bought it otherwise.

As far as the '43 MGA. Wasn't England a bit busier in '43 than worrying about exporting cars to the US? Tanks, bomber maybe, but cars?

MG did not produce 500 cars as a test for the market. The testing phase was done long before the production models and was performed on modified TF chassis. Someone commented on another BBS that the "500" was probabloy just the first order from the US importer when the car was released. That means nothing in my book.

i emailed this ?gent?

1.
so the vin number is not the actual vin number? you are selling a car under false pretenses and any sale could be considered non binding since the car represented is not the car for sale.

2. As an owner of several Mg's and looking for more, I am a serious buyer for this vehicle.

3. Please elaborate on the vehicles history. What is it that makes it worth almost three times the price of most other Mg A's

4. Do you have Photos of the under carriage and engine bay?

thank You
Mark

Now there is a message that hobbyists need not reply. Only serious collectors!!!!!

Who is this person? And do I understand you can not email him?

I have seen that Route 66 wallpaper on many car sales on eBay. Is that just generic or does an actual dealer have it? This person has only one car for sale.

I don't think MGAs ever competed in Grand Prix events- open wheeled single seaters were used. That's why I asked:

": I'm very interested in the fact that this was raced in a Grand Prix. Which one, when and who drove it- did it finish and in what place? There would undoubtedly be photos to document and support this valuable aspect of the car's history.
Nov-04-05
A: I will try to gather this information. As soon as I get any details, they will posted. Thanks for your interest."

I'm not going to hold my breath- now if it could be documented and proven this truly would be a rare and unique MGA.

I rather suspect that they mean MGAs were raced without any idea that Grand Prix are a particular kind of race for particular cars, just as Elvis and Ms. Kelly drove sports cars on occasion; with no particular connection to MGAs in either case.

Maybe the seller ought to fire up his photo-shop and paste that sucker in between Stirling Moss and Fangio going through a corner at Monaco with Grace waving to them all....

That'd be worth $114,000, eh? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

Er, then there's the "reserve".... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I emailed him with 3 questions & got the same email...then I emailed him back & let him know the size of my collection & that I am a "serious collector"...got the same email again! Screw him!

Three times?!! I was thinking more like TEN times.
I'd love to email this guy, but it's not worth it.
He's obviously full of it.
I should have him post my TR4. He could say how it is the same car that was seen in movies and magizines.
I mean TR4s have been in several movies, and they were advertised in all kinds of magazines when they were new.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well, we all know the English had nothing else going on in 1943 so they must have been busy cranking out little sports cars, right? And I love the Grand Prix history of the second MGA; those Formula 1 MGs are quite rare! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
