what needs to be cut to make it fit...a smallblock will fit in it...i have seen a hemi in a bugeye...

You'll need to add about 3 inches to the height of the hood & lengthen the engine compartment by that much or more...& the transmission tunnel will need to be about 5 or 6 inches wider.

A good choice, though, is any of the Ford "Kent" series of pushrod engines.
You should be able to find a 1500cc or 1600cc version not too expensively, though the Formula Ford guys have used up a lot of the blocks.
What's good about them?
1-Short stroke, high revving, big valves, not too tall so they fit well.
2- 5 bearing cranks, tough and smooth running.
3- Relatively light, closer to an A series than a B series in weight.
4- Very slick full synchro box.
Back in the 1960's a friend of mine had 1300cc Kent in place of the 948 A series in his frogeye Sprite, and it was a huge improvement.

1. hold you over for a while on speed, since they move pretty well.
2. be a quicker install, so that you can get it on the road sooner
3. provide good reliability
4. not be a structural issue
5. give time to do other upgrades, brakes etc.
6. be modified in the future to provide about 100hp, remain reliable and street drivable.
lastly it maybe more accepted by some of our trueist.
